Take more of the head-on vs. crossing shots, easier to hit those in strong winds, actually any wind.

Last year we shot them in 35 mph winds north of Abilene. Put a mojo out and they float. Easy limit and fun to hit the ones in the jet stream.

On a hunt near Spur a front hit in Oct and tons of dove came in. 40 to 50 mph winds. Made finding them fun 100 yards away. Had to lead them by a few school buses.

Where are the birds? Nothing at the house, which is in flyway, plus no locals. A fee birds at the ranch. Never seen it like this in 15 years. I may pass Monday and wait for a front to bring in northern dove.

Make sure you face your decoys into the wind

The wind definitely helps if they circle into the decoys or try to turn around. It's better for my plot if it's out of the north, but I'll make it work!

It will be 58 degrees down from 71 in kansas on sat morning. That MIGHT bring some down for us this weekend, but we have 50% rain on sat-monday. Ugh, dove hunting has become a science unless you live in mexico or coleman texas and have to worry about nothing.

The folks on the news last nite said it will be an exceptional dove season opener everywhere in texas this year due to high survey numbers.

They know nothing, NOTHING

Last year a news cast crew was filming hunters shooting at a flock of 200 grackles.

How do the dove know to just stay in Coleman?

Just like ducks, they remember their favorite spots.
And with whitewings its even worse. Once they decide to leave, they all get up and leave down south or stay in town. This year not so many in town

Sales at cabelas down 20% the last 2 weeks of august. Thats a sign

They were flying pretty good right after daybreak out here near Throckmorton. Good shooting for about 90 minutes then they got real thin.

Got my limit in two hours at some public land. Was a good opener.
