Looking at a several dove leases where you buy a season pass in NW Texas between Abilene, Throckmorton and Snyder. All seem pretty economical with several fields to hunt. Wanted to see who has done the dove lease thing and did you feel the value and quality of hunting was good? Did you ever feel you were ripped off because of too many hunters or the fields were no good? If you can name names or PM me so I can avoid the "bad" dove lease broker guys.

subscribed. I didn't get a "pass", but I am paying to dove hunt this year for the 1st time, partly to test out our truck/hauler though.

Kind of interested in what other guys experiences have been. I suppose it will vary wildly by location, or closeness to a large population such as DFW. IDK

I leased with JW out there. Great guy but it is a lease. You better hunt the opener cause after that, it takes northern birds to fill a field back up which will then get shot out in one day when word spreads. Same with all leases. They get slammed and birds don't stick around getting shot all the time. Some years are better than most which no one has control over. My buddy leased with GG and had a very slow season. He followed the dove so he leased in his backyard last year and burned $500 for nothing. Birds just didn't show up like the previous year he slammed them in the same area.

I have been going on a corporate hunt near Lueders for 6 straight years. First 4 it was easy limits all hunts. Past 2, the drought has killed them and they have half the number of fields but have the same number of clients booked so you get a limit one day and maybe a couple birds the next.

Same here now. We once left a dove lease after 2 days and 4 guys seeing nothing and drove 100 miles to the deer lease to actually shoot some birds. This was only 3 days after Sept 1. I now just hunt the deer lease and can limit the first two weekends normally.

One of the leasing outfits for dove/duck/geese. Could be spelled wrong, seen it numerous times on here last season. Sure theres some on here that know what im saying or trying to say.

Saw alot of dont slemp this thread and crap last year. Not very well liked from what I hear.

Just got on Puddin's Dove lease today. Went out there at daybreak and it was sprinkling. Dove were flying good there. South end by the big lake (not much left of it) had plenty flying and then went to the north end and saw plenty there too. They really didn't start flying good until 7:15 or after. We took 4 spots. Can't wait until Monday. aim Thanks George Green and Dan Gleason. cheers

Basically the lease he was on was for season not day hunters. Well he gets his spot for him and his boy early.
Well a bit later here comes a big jacked up truck with I believe Coastal Outfitters advertising all over it right up to where hes at.
They let this guy bring day hunters on this lease. short story long, where my buddy was at turned into a parking area for this other guys hunters.

I was hunting a 12 acre cow pasture a mile from them. I limited, he got a couple.

dove leases are like any other lease....do your homework and you get what you pay for. always go look at the field before you lease it. see what you're buying. Always ask how many other people are going to have access to hunt that field with you, and make very clear the expectations of what you would like to be able to do and what the owner will allow you to do. after that...ABIDE. abusing another persons property or a lease agreement is probably the worst thing you could do.

good dove leases seem to run $200+ per gun. that may not be for the entire season either. maybe just a slot of several days or a couple weekends. Good day leases will run $100+.....the closer you are to town the higher the price. folks seem to be much more willing to travel for a deer lease than dove. there's some great south zone bird hunting that can be had for cheaper.

the Type II public permits from the state are good too. they are very economical and give access to a lot of land. there are places close to town, but they will be crowed and likely lesser in quality. you need to travel to the larger south zone leases. there's some easy limits to be had out toward dilley, runge, Kleberg, etc.

Season leases are hard to pick. The birds move but your lease doesn't.

Both times I have been on a dove dove lease has been a bust of some kind. 1st time first year went smooth as silk(lots of birds). The second year we had to share the lease with the owner's son. We found out that meant his son and 8 of his closest friends(epic fail). Second times was a bust because of a lack of birds. That one came to $50 per bird.
