I am new to bow huntin I shoot a #55 recurve. Everyone says to use fixed because recurve is slower. My only question at this point is why go with fixed? If I beef up the weight to make up for the speed would I be able to use mechanical? The reason I ask is because honestly I want the biggest exit wound I can get so I have a good blood trail and its seems mechanical allows a bigger exit.

No way I would do that... You probably would rarely even have an exit with a big mech head. Rather have two 1" holes than one 2" entrance

If you're really only concerned with the size of the exit hole, then buy a compound and shoot a mechanical broad head. I would concentrate more on shot placement.

The shot placement part is not the issue I have rifle hunted all my life and takin many animals. But there is somethin about a bow that concerns me about being able to track the animal. I just wana do everything I can do to make sure I find it because unlike with a rife they are not gona drop where they stand. I believe I am going to use a fixed head but due to me not knowing realy the diffrence if the arrow and head combined weights are the same and shooting at the same speed. Which one would drive deeper and why because in my mind i would think it would be about the same...

If you put a good-sharp fixed blade into a deer's lungs (that is lungs as in both of them) that deer is not going far. There have been countless deer taken with a sharp fixed blade head. I recommend you use a Grim Reaper Hades fixed blade. That is one heck of a fixed blade.

Aim low and if the deer ducks you get lungs, if he does not duck you get heart.

Shot placement is KING. I know you have shot them with a gun but it is completely different with a bow. Guns kill by shock, arrows kill by bleeding. Deer almost never stand broadside. Even when they do the move after you release the arrow. Shot for the exit hole and you will be fine.

My 65# I shoot Muzzy Phantoms 200gn I take off the bleeder blades so I have two blades on 2018 aluminum arrows.

My 60# I shoot Zwickeys 135gn on Gold Tip Traditional carbon arrows

My 55# I shoot Glue on Zwickeys 135gn on wood arrows.

I wouldn't ever think about shooting a mechanical with traditional bow. Any thing that has moving parts is subject to fail for one, and there's nothing like a wide two blade cut on contact. There's a ton of them out there, pick the on you like the best.
