My whole life I have hunted in West Texas within an hour of my home. Shoot a deer, throw it in the back of the truck, and drive it to the processor. This is my first year back deer hunting since I moved to the DFW but I have a problem. Well a couple of problems. The place that I will be hunting is around 5 hours from my house, where I will be processing my own deer. My average time at the lease will be around 5 days at a time. My question is if I shoot a deer on day 1, how could I safely store it until I can get home on day 5 to process. Is it safe to leave it on ice that long? What do you guys do if you are going to be out at the lease several days and you take an animal that needs to be stored a while before processing? Thanks in advance for the help, never been in this situation before.
Country boy livin in the city.

If you quarter him up and keep on ice in a cooler and drain the water regularly you should be ok - some folks actually age the meet 4-5 days before processing.
You can't fix stupid

Big enough ice chest to fit quarters and ice. I save milk jugs and soda bottles ad freeze them then bust them with a hammer and never even have to buy ice.
It's hell eatin em live

You could also see if there is a processor close to your lease and pay him by the day to keep it in his cooler. It will be frozen and ready for the trip to the house when that time comes.
All ready

I leave mine on ice for 7 or 8 days on a regular basis, just keep it dry.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
