Hi, I live in Houston, and was wondering how to go about finding a deer lease I can hunt on. I know a lot of people are on leases, some are lucky to know someone with land. I no longer have that option unfortunately. Interested in a year lease, or seasonal lease. I have not had the luxury of being invited to hunt deer the last 3 seasons. It is driving me crazy, so I am going to see about finding a hunting lease I can lease out, with a group or individually. I don't want to pay for a guided hunt, as I would rather have the option to come and go as I please and don't want to pay thousands just to hunt 1 deer. I have heard mixed reviews about leasing timber land. So not sure about that option?
Can you find a lease where you can hunt all game on it? I am open to just a deer least option too. I just don't know where to start. I know I may be too late for this season, but I will take what I can get.
Thanks for any help/advice!

You can also try the chamber of commerce where you want to hunt. Talk to the guys at the feed stores and processing plants.

All good advice above. Best bet is to find some friends with leases and let them know you are interested in joining if they have an opening. I got on a lease this year that way and I fell into a honeyhole. Just an FYI. I live in NW Houston in Cypress. Finding a good lease around here is almost impossible. I drive 4.5hrs to my lease each way. South Texas is almost as far. Hill country isn't much closer. I've found that landowners aren't dumb and they know that land for lease around Houston is at a premium so unless you want to pay $10K/year, plan to drive a little.
One other note - Sam Houston National Forest offers some opportunities to hunt close by and it's public. I've never tried it, but I was going to this year until my buddy called in June and asked if I wanted to jump on his lease. Just a thought.
