If your talking about in a spin feeder I wouldn't recommend putting protein in one at all.

in a spin cast if you put too much protein it will clog due to expansion and retraction, humidity is the enemy in spin cast feeders with protein.

I would never do it personally, but just logically thinking about it...it will clog!!! shoot even buffet style feeders can clog. My uncle I believe set one up with protein last weekend, we will see if I am right!

Where I live it works. Now I do use pretty big funnels anyways but never really had a problem with it. That being said I would not do it somewhere I couldn't check the feeders once a week or at least when it's been wet.

I will not put protien in a spin feeder because if it falls on the ground it usually ends up wasted and good protien is expensive, I also don't put corn in protien feeders because it can get wet in the bottom and sour or even grow roots over time and ruin a good gravity feeder. What I prefer to do is put one of each feeders together the corn attracts them and they tend to gravitate towards and eat the protien. This works good during the off season when it doesn't matter what time they come in to eat especially in the spring and summer when sntlers are forming, so I feed protien from March to mid to late September and then when the protien feeders go empty I don't refill them and just feed corn until they lose their antlers again. All in all the main key is don't be a city boy wanna be hunter who only feeds when they hunt a real hunter/conservationist feeds year round, I don't just bait my deer I feed and do my part for the whole herd.

mix corn in my protein feeder to draw deer in but don't put protein in a corn feeder because it binds up the spinner.

I have fed straight protein pellets out of a spin feeder but you need some sort of an agitator to keep the pellets flowing even mixed with corn. I do not recommend feeding protein and corn mixed in a free choice feeder for a long period of time if you have lots of coons, squirrels or bird activity like quail at your feeder. They will dig pellets out to get to corn. If you can afford a timered trough style feeder get one of those so you can feed what ever you want in it from straight protein to corn/pellets/peas/soybeans mixed. You can feed what ever amount you want to fit your budget.
