I'm a newbie here. Great forum! I searched the forum but came up empty. Maybe one of you can help me out.

I really like the Swarovski Z5 optics and weight. I'm not wild about either the ballistic turret or the capped turrets. I like a simple plex reticle. I need to dial elevation more than one rotation for long range, which rules out the ballistic turret. I shoot different loads for hunting and target practice, and need to change zeros for different points of imapct. The capped turrest don't have click values on them, which makes it hard to accurately dial anything beyond a few MOA.

Does anyone make a micrometer knob for the Swarovski capped turrets?

Get away from the Swaro for your application. Awesome glass, bad reticle and turrets for the job. Vortex Viper, Vortex Razor, SWFA SS, Bushy Elite, NF F-1, Schmitt & Bender, Premier, and a few others are very good makers that will fit the bill.

If you need more then 13 moa use 20moa bases

Only if the scope has enough internal elevation. I'd bet that the Swarovski doesn't have enough for a 20 Moa base and a 100 yard zero.

I get where you're coming from. I use a Bushnell HDMR 3.5-21x50 with an H-59 reticle on my long range tactical rifle. I just don't want to hump that rig on a long hike in hilly terrain, which is how I usually hunt.

The Z5 spec is 41 MOA of reticle travel. Actually, those scopes have about 44 MOA of elevation travel. A 20 MOA base should work, but may be too much if the barrel throws shots high. On hunting rifles, I prefer to use Burris Signature rings to get more elevation.

I want a high contrast scope with a clear, wide field of view. I want a simple reticle with good visibility in low light that I can zero at 200 yds and point blank hit targets out to 250 hds. And I want a lightweight scope with small turrets that I can use for a 500 yd shot of that's what I've got in front of me at the end of the day. To make that 500 shot with confidence, I practice at 750 yds. If I could get micrometer turrets for the Z5, I would be in hog heaven.

Lieca and S&B both make short turret hunting scopes. Also I think meopta is or has one as well.

S&B is a bit out of my price range.

I forgot to mention that I want to leave my spotting scope at camp and use the rifle scope to count antler points. The Z5 scopes provide 18X or 25X on the high side. Leica magnification peaks at 12X, which is far short of the Z5.

I generally like Meopta scopes but not for this application. They are a good value, but the MeoPro line has a low zoom ratio (3:1). The MeoStar R1 line has larger zoom ratio but the FOV tunnels at the low end, so the effective FOV ratio is only about 3.2:1 to 3.6:1. The R2 line is too new for me to judge.

As I said before, I really like the Z5 optics.
