Okay, so i don't know where to post this, equipment, varmints, or exotics, because i need to know what is in a good hunting spotlight. This last weekend and Forister's we did some night rabbit and axis hunting. He had a spotlight, no clue which, and the Club has agreed that we need at least one of our own. I'm looking at the Streamlight WayPoint and Browning High Noon 4C, but my dad doesn't like the lumens on them. How many lumens is good for spotting out to let's say...200yd? This'll be for anything from rabbits to bison.

Also, what do you use? What do you consider the best?

I have a Streamlight and have been very happy with it so far.

bunch of topics about this in hog section. i have aXLR250 works good. lumens is not the only thind the reflector cone shape plays alot into the focus of the beam.

I got the sniper hawg lights and like them. Got red mounted on my bow and carry the white in my pocket for blood trail. I mount my red light and walk the roads around our place at night and shoot everything from rabbits, coons, possums, hogs whatever. It also has the scope mount too so when I'm sitting in the blind with the feeder light on I can shoot the rifle too.

I have an XLR250 and it works great and the rechargeable batteries really hold a charge. I have shot several pigs and coyote over 200 yards with it and a quality scope.

I have had a LED Lenser X21 for about 5 years now. You can see a long ways at night with one. Gets good battery life off of 4 D cell batteries also.

There are plenty flash lights that compare to the light out put without the size of a spotlight.

Exactly using a bulky spot light doesn't make a lot of sense anymore.

Plus the title of the thread says flashlight so that kinda made me think we were talking about flashlights.

I thought they were interchangeable words.

And the flashlights y'all are talking about are quite expensive. I'm looking for stuff $100>.

This statement has never been truer than with lights in my opinion. I've bought dozens from $20-$200 and the $200 lights are worth it, they last longer, are more durable and most come with spare batteries and the charger.

If your wanting a good light for around $100 range this one is good. The $200 light is better but not 2x better than this one.

I bought the expensive hunting lights (VarmintLights), and after my wife found out how much I paid, I had to buy the rest of my lights off of Amazon, Alibaba, and Light Mall.

First off they are all Chinese junk and paying more doesn't guarantee quality.

The name brand stuff was slightly better, but not enough to justify the excessive price. Even some of it's led units died with in the first five minutes. Also, the name brand stuff had a poor (from the customer perspective) return policy. Caveat emptor!

The no-name stuff was a fraction of the cost, and some of it was very poor quality, off color, and low light. It was hit or miss.

But, in the end I was able to find reasonable quality stuff direct from China at a fraction of the cost of VarmintLights. It just took some time.

I am always amused when this issue comes up and folks that paid $200 for a $30 light try to justify what they spent by saying and I'm paraphrasing, "you have to overpay to get a good light".

It's not true. Research is your friend. There are several forums on the net that discuss only hunting and tactical lights.

I figure Ive gotten my money's worth out of my last one. Its about 6 or so years old and Ive used it as a hammer, dropped it in water, ran over it, you name it and its still going strong and got dozens of kills too.

I've been using a couple of lights from dealextreme for like 9 months, with zero issues. There's no way I'd pay $130 for a light that I can get for $55 if I just wait a few weeks to get it. I use one of them daily....battery lasts a long time too.

Take a look at this and then take a look at some of the lights from the vendors out there....there's a few that are obviously this very light with a different name printed on it.

No, you won't get good support...but you can damn near buy 3 of them. I got this big light and a smaller one for scanning for under $75 before christmas last year. There's no way I could have gotten a better deal than that. Just be prepared to wait for a month to get it!

I have the big light mounted on a 22 magnum and I can take a shot in pitch dark as far out as that rifle is reliable.
