This is the first fawn that I have had on camera. The date is correct. Is this late? What are it's chances of survival? ]Photobucket[/url]

In Texas, I would say a very good chance. Especially in the warmer areas of the state.

Not late at all for many areas in Texas. Hard to judge size from that small pic but I would say that fawn is at least a month old.

Yes there are coyotes around. I was watching doe and fawn Saturday night. The doe and fawn left and soon after either a bobcat or coyote ran through. Couldn't tell due to speed, distance and cover but it was moving! I was thinking it was late in the year to have a fawn this young on the ground. I'm glad to here that ya'll don't think so.

Fawns are not that big when born, 3#-5# in most areas of Texas. Most of them stay hidden for the first 2 weeks. I usually don't see a fawn till they are 6-8 weeks old out feeding with a doe. This fawn is about 10 weeks old now. I first saw it early one morning close to this water trough traveling with the doe in mid June. That doe has lived around that trough for the last 2 yrs now. He has grown a bunch but is still not very big in size. There are bobcats that use that trough. Have not seen a coyote in a pic at the trough in a while but there are plenty of tracks close to it on the roads.

Had a front yard full of them this morning. Doe with a fawn and a doe with twin fawns. And our big tomcat was in the yard with them, just beat the stuffing out of a rat. They were woofing at the cat and the fawns were running and playing. I've been on a coyote eradication program for years, and I must be making a difference. Our fawn survival rate seems pretty good and the herd has grown noticeably. Average fawn survival rate is 60% in Texas, I read.
