Currently doing some restoration work on my 77 CJ-5. The exhaust is pretty ratted out from the manifold back. I pulled it all out in one piece and took it to my local muffle shop. I asked them to fab up a new one just like it. The guy there told me he needs the jeep there. I told him I was restoring the jeep and there is no way I could bring it over right now and that I did not want to do first fire on an open exhaust. I told him the hangers are still there and all the dimensions are correct. He told me they still need the jeep. I asked him if he knew anyone else that could do it, and all he said is "Good Luck"

What gives, is it against the law or something? Is this normal?

I am guessing that due to emissions, they must verify the vehicle. It is probably illegal for them to put an exhaust with no cat on a newer vehicle. That is just a guess though.

Bet I can take it to a Mexican shop and get it done then. So much with trying to deal with an American.
