"It is the same boiling water that softens the rice, which hardens the egg." It's not always about the circumstances, but what you are made of....

Not my style of hunting. Judging by all the cameras, looks like he's only doing it for video. Edited: here's the full video. Unethical hunting, IMO.

My only concern is how many wounded animals before he had one good shot on tape?
I'm a terrible shot but I follow up with a grenade!

If I knew where the hogs would be, I would have a bunch of cameras set up as well. It is neat when you can get multiple perspectives of what is going on during the event. No doubt the guy spear hunts. The cams just document what goes on with the hunt.

Seems like there would be a quicker more ethical way to end it. The task was accomplished, why not finish it off quickly?

It's a pretty good video. Looks fun. Takes a lot of patience to get the right shot.

Sorry, but I fail to see how that was unethical. I've had to track them a lot further than 10ft after hitting them perfectly with a 170 grain from my trusty Marlin 336. Looked to me like that pig did the same dirt dance he would have had you hit him with a 30-30, 30.06, .308, etc...

He threw a second spear and missed. And his third spear was a poor throw. Taking a shot with a precision rifle has a lot less error than the human hand throwing a spear.

It's not pretty when our attempt to kill something isn't a DRT moment. I'm not sure how perfect those of you who are complaining about the ethics must be. I guess you never had to track a wounded animal. I'm pretty sure a few times when I didn't drop a target in its tracks that there was some suffering involved. Following a blood trail means that the animal was in pain, suffering. I try to minimize that, but it sometimes happens. Are any of you that are complaining also "fair chase" proponents? Seems like a sharp spear is a bit more of a "fair chase" than a high-powered rifle. My only objection is that he filmed it and published it-- there are too-many lily-livered complainers that are offended. Sometimes it's better not to stir the pot.

The point is don't use inadequate tools, especially when you suck at using them.

You're confusing wounding the animal, it getting away and having to track it with watching it while a clean-up shot could have been easily taken. If he wanted to prove a point by taking it with a spear, fine. All I'm saying is respect the animal enough that if you have the opportunity to finish it off maybe there's a better way than demonstrated in the video.

I wonder if the tribesman who hunted with spears for thousands of years knew they were hunting with "inadequate tools".
Traditional all day.

Not my preferred method... but if that's unethical because its not the fastest way to kill it then I guess we need to stop using bows, crossbows etc and move only to hi powered rifles and head shots only... shooting at the heart lungs would take too long to kill. Also no chasing them with dogs or traps because you don't want them to be scared of the dogs or have to suffer in the trap!
It's hell eatin em live

Traditional all day. Right, because they were hunting for sport, and they certainly had guns as another option.

I don't see how this is any less ethical than taking pot shots out of a helicopter with an Akdal and buckshot. Hog is dead. Good day.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

As a lifelong hunter, the utmost importance is ethical means of taking an animal. Sorry if I do not appeal to the ignorant hillbilly type. Oh, and I'm not from Austin. It's just the closest city that puts me on the map with a recognizable name. Austin is a craptastic city.

To say someone's style of hunting is unethical is pretty immature. you come off as a PETA infiltrator and they, next to thieves and child molesters and are disliked and harassed

Just because a gun is a option doesn't mean you have to utilize it. Some people like to test their grit and skill and not just pull a trigger. Don't talk noise about other means of hunting just cuz you don't utilize the "inadequate tools" that are used for "sport".
