I usually start out dove season shooting a 10 gauge 3 1/2 mag number 2 shot. Their skin is just to thick for a 28 gauge 7 1/2 shot to even knock em down grin

Shooting 6s at doves isn't as stupid as some here would have you believe. If you're shooting over food or near water and have 20-30 yd shots, then 6 is probably a bit much. We shoot a passing pattern down here quite frequently at white wings headed back to the roost. Those birds are 75' in the air and on a mission to get to bed. High brass 6s are pretty darned effective at getting their attention. I've shot them with 7.5s and 8s, but when the wind gets up, you are better off watching unless you have something with more go to it. HB 6s through an IM to Full choke work well, particularly the Rio Texas Game Load.

I'm sure that everyone else has access to great shooting opportunities. If you do, don't shoot 6s, but not everyone has the same shots you do.

Best dove round ever made imo.

Knocked in loaded in lampassas had them last year. I still have a case.

When your around a lot of white wing the 6's really show well. Also if your like me and aren't getting to hunt the premo spots the 6's let you reach out and touch them

I use the #6s so I can reach out and touch em....we don't have the dove numbers here in East Texas like some other parts of the state so you gotta be able to shoot em from a good distance sometimes....worked great for me last year

I got a box of Remington but I'm Strictly Rio shells. Have had great success with Snows back in California with them and will continue to use them. Awesome for dove too! All around great shell personally for me. And very affordable!

Academy in Beaumont had a whole pallet full. Way over priced though so I got the Remington and Estates that were on sale for about half of what they wanted for Rios.

These worked flawlessly last year .... I used the 1 1/4 oz 7.5 HV in a Browning Sporting Clays "Golden Clays " .. Never killed so many Dove in my life

So is there any word if Cabelas has them or not ? Last year they had tons at this time but I just noticed they didn't have the High Velocity ones on there website .. Could there be a shortage this year considering one of their Ammo Factories burned down in a explosion this spring ? I sure hope they have them because ?I had planned on going tomorrow to the Ft Worth Cabelas

I bought a case of Rios 7.5 at Cabela's last week as stated in my earlier post. They had a few cases stacked up but I wouldn't say they were overloaded with them.

I will stick with my $50 a case loads. If I cant bring em down with 7-1/2 1oz loads I will quit dove hunting.

5 or so yrs from now are you gonna buy them heavier loads for $150? My pockets are a bit shallow

Just found out this morning that the Rio Tennessee ammunition plant had a explosion in April of this year. Don't know if they made shot shells there but maybe that is the reason for the short supply so far this year.

Rio plant explosion news article.

Was able to get the last flat of Rio Texas Game Load 7.5 High Velocity.. Found the last case at the bottom of a pallet with around 30-40 Flats of Texas Game Load regulars
