Let me start out by saying Mike runs a top notch operation! The hunt was only a day by choice. I had more fun on this hunt than any other guided hunt!

The day started out by getting greeted by Mike and his dad at the ranch house. I was already in awe at all the quality animals I had already seen just driving thru the low fence part to get to house. You can always tell the guys that truely love their ranch and they do.

After a short meet and greet and signing usual paperwork we were off in the ranger to chase oryx.
We drove maybe 10mins and we got into a huge herd of oryx all well fed and in great shape. We tried numerous times to get a good shot but his animals are anything but tame. Well after about a hour of playing cat and mouse they ran off into the really thick stuff. After a little work we got them located but couldn't get a clear shot. After getting enough of us they moved back to the more open area. Finally around 2pm the stars aligned and a big old mature cow seperated from the herd and gave me a shot. That is when I found out how tough African game really is. I placed my first shot center of the neck (I hate tracking) well that only slowed her down. My next shot was on the move and landed a little far back and that really slowed her down but not fully down. I finally had enough and with one well placed shot to the neck sealed the deal. I was in shock at the lead it took. I was just plain confused.

Ended up with a awesome 40" cow. It actually is exactly 40".

Thank you Mike for a great hunt and look forward to the next go around.

Congratulations. I have to agree with you, those guys are top notch and make you feel welcome from first hello till you wave goodbye. I think I was chasing that very same oryx when I was there. We could never get a clear shot. I took a very nice 37" cow, but there was one cow that was noticeably longer. I an very confident that I will hunt with Mike and Chalk Creek again.

We had a great hunt with you Andrew, you were a pleasure to hunt with and hope to have you back. After all we went through not only during the hunt, but before, you deserved this fantastic Oryx! One of the best cows we've gotten out there! Thanks again, hope to see you again soon!

Congrats
Mike
