Hot, mid day and rested my rifle on a travel trailer in our camp area. The things bucks will do when a doe is smellin' good.

Cleared Brush where power company was putting in some new lines in Junction this year. Saw him chasing a doe as I was going home on a Sunday afternoon. Hopped out of the truck and popped him behind the shoulder at 150 yards. Had been hunting hard all weekend.

The biggest buck I've ever seen (not shot) was on the campus at Sul Ross in Alpine. Monster Muleys cruise those hills around campus.

Goat ranch in Jonesboro, TX, 1981. I was walking down a two-track to my stand, mid-afternoon. There was a creek bed on the left and a tall steep hill on the right. I'd gone about 300 yards from camp when my boot-lace came untied. I stopped to tie it. When I looked up there was a HUGE buck topping the crest of the hill, and it was a steep, nasty, hillside strewn with all sorts of rocks and no trail that I knew of. It wasn't too long a shot, about 175 yards and almost at a 45 degree angle. I shot him in the neck with the .25-06 I was carrying, and still have. He dropped and I marked the spot and turned around to pick up the little pack I'd laid down, halfway dreading the task of getting him down from the top of that ankle breaker of a hill. When I turned back around the dark brown spot that had been him was gone, my heart sank, then I saw him running down the hill. He got to the two-track and piled up right in the middle of it. Back then a point to me was anything you could hand a ring on. He has 23, and 18 scorable points by B&C standards. I need to have him scored, never have.

edited to add: He's still hanging on my Mom's wall, but I think his width was 23 inches, and he has a couple tines on each side near or over 12".

Nov, 1990 in Nova Scotia Canada. 11 point buck weighed 195 lbs following a doe and fawn around a pond connected to a lake. I just happen to be sitting where they were headed. It was light enough to see them clearly around the pond but when they came closer through the woods it was very dark. I thought he was a huge 4 point was I pleasantly surprised. He still hangs on my wall next to my 13 point from rising star.

In my backyard. 60 yards. Shot him from inside the kitchen. Opened the window, removed the screen, told the wife and kids to go upstairs because it was gonna be loud, put in my ear plugs and shot him with my .270.

Backyard is about 80 yards by 150 yards and is ringed by thick coniferous forest on two sides and a cedar swamp on the other.

Sounds a lot like where I killed my biggest. Mine was in Childress.

Similar country. Right outside of Stamford.

It was like 80 acres and had a twelve foot chain link fence around. Didn't get him over a feeder or from a stand. I put the stalk on him and got within 100 yds while using the wind.

To be determined

The long pasture about 100' wide 4 miles long, low fence on each side, cattle guard at each end. Not much traffic that night at 2 am. Had to take beer out trunk to get him in.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

Biggest buck I ever shot, I wasn't even hunting. My grandma owned a ranch just west of Enchanted Rock. Dad and uncle ran cattle and hunting rights on it. Well, another uncle from Dallas wanted to hunt it and wanted one of us kids to go along in case he shot something. So we got in the farm truck, grabbed the ranch rifle, .30 rem, model 8A semi auto. Back in the 60's, no fancy blinds or feeders. So parked about 300 yards from where we were hunting a blind or brush pile. Land was bee brush, post oak, persimmon and granite flats. Gentle valleys and small rises. About half ways to the blind, my uncle shot a 6 point buck. He's gutting it and I'm there holding the rifle when a bunch of deer come walking by at about 40 yards. His shot had echoed the area and deer were confused. In the group was a big 8 point buck with heavy dark horn. It scored 109. Shot it thru the ribs.

I have two "biggest bucks" that score almost identical. The first was 100 yards off a wheat field where the deer entered/left the field. The biggest bucks would leave the field before light in the morning, so I set up a feeder in the brush off the field. One morning it all worked as planned. I could tell I had a big bodied deer at the feeder but it was too dark to tell what he was. It finally got light enough and I dropped him in his tracks. Side note: It was so early, I drug him away from the feeder and kept hunting. 45 minutes later another big mature buck came by and I dropped him as well. The second buck didn't have as big a rack, but a trophy none the less.

My second biggest buck was from a tower stand that straddled a fence line that was thick and brushy on one side and more open on the other. Typical edge situation that deer frequent.

Rattled mine up along the 'salt fork'of the Brazos. 11 point 27" wide. Second largest was killed at the home place, also rattled up. A beautiful valley surrounded by hills loaded with 'Spanish oaks',10 point.
