Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at getting a synthetic stock model 700 and thought I might give it an AmStripe pattern.

I wouldn't do it to a gun unless the finish was already ruined.

I dunno how many others are like me, but if its been coated/modified the finish, I usually don't even consider buying used guns like that unless it is just pennies on the dollar or sumthn.

I'm thinking of doing it to a shotgun. Does it look good on a wood stock?

I've done a couple. Not hard and extremely durable.

Did an AR once, turned out pretty good. Need to do some practicing on a scrap piece of metal first to get the hang of it. If you take your time it turns out really well

Cheap and easy. Just get it clean. Acetone or brake parts cleaner. I've used both.

Dumb question, but will acetone or brake cleaner damage aluminum? I am rebuilding my old 10/22 and going to Duracoat the receiver. Already removed original finish.

I don't think so but I would look it up to be safe.

I looked into it, it's $32 for the aerosol spray can and lots of $ to buy everything to set up spray rig. I only need to have a receiver for a 10/22 done. Wouldn't be easier (& mor economical) to just mail it to someone and pay them to do it? Does anyone have a recommendation of who to use?

You can get the spray cans for 8 dollars at home depot online(I believe 2 come in a package). Or I bought mine on ebay for just a few bucks

Which product from home Depot are you talking about? I have a blued shotgun and it has a lot of rust pits. I was looking for a way to treat it to stop the rusting and maybe camo it a bit. Thanks for any info.

I think if you own a compressor already it's not an unreasonable expense to get a dryer, regulator, and HVLP spray gun. I think I picked up all of this in a kit from autozone with 3 different size sprayers for around $75. That was several years ago when I had a race car and decided to paint it myself. I've used it many times since then. Although you only want to duracoat one piece when you see how easy and cheap it is after your set up you will find many things to do.

The left handed savage above was my first project. It was a right handed stock that I converted to left with a Dremel and filler as well as an aftermarket barrel that didn't match. Since that first time last year I have duracoated 4 other times.

Man, I really want to try this, but really scared I'm going to mess something up. Can you take the duracoat off like you can spray paint?

Get it clean, and mix it according to the directions. Spray it on in small coats, and you will be fine.

I painted a fiberglass rake handle first to set the sprayer and learn on. Less than 5 minutes on that and I was doing the savage. There's more than enough in each bottle of color to practice with and complete a project. They say 2 guns per bottle. Lots of info available here http://www.houtsenterprises.net/index.html that is also where I buy mine from. When your done reading click on "colors" on the left hand side.

So there's no sand blasting and stuff involved in the duracoat process like there is in the cerakote?

Nope. It just has to be clean. Sanding is fine if your wanting to clean some stuff up.

Can this be taken off with paint stripper? Just in case I put it on and don't like it I can go back to black.

Don't know about that but you tube is your friend. Pretty durable stuff. I know butchs bore shine will not touch it and it clearly states will remove some finishes and melt plastic.

Gotcha I've been watching several videos on it lately and thinking of doing an AR stripped upper and lower and rail in coyote tan along with my dedicated 22LR upper and rail the same. Also wanting to do my glock slide, but don't have a sight pusher for the rear sight so going to have to figure that one out too.
