Maintenance trip. Stock up on corn, check cams, fill feeders, scouting WT - but also keeping an eye out for a couple of big bad boy axis. Saw quite a few whitetail out in the heat if the day around 4:30-5:00 - and about 12-13 new fawns. One group of a dozen deer with 7-8 fawns playing around. Don't know why they are moving this time of day in this heat.
Lots of good cam pix.
After I scattered some corn, I started a sit about an hour ago. Saw a few WT doe with fawns and two young 8pt. Had a few axis walk by, one was pretty nice - but he is not the BBB I'm looking for so they get a walk today.

Five axis , 4 yearling spikes and a doe. They keep looking back, so maybe BBB is following behind. Stay tuned.

And they're gone. Strange that I haven't seen WT. Usually they are pretty regular.

Just fixing to pack up and 4 more axis walking by from opposite side of pasture. Two does, each with a fawn.
Something else in the brush behind them. Looks maybe like a whitetail buck I want to get pix of - so I guess I'll sit a little longer.
Already getting hot.

One of those doe is really a young spike. And it is a WT 8pt buck traveling with them, but not the one I thought.

Not much moving this afternoon. Very hot. When I first sat down had an axis doe under the feeder. Why don't they do that when I'm meat hunting.

That's usually when the big buck shows up as well. After you are tagged out

Had two whitetail bucks come running in about 8:30. One perfectly symmetrical 8pt, and one 6pt that looks like the brows are splitting. Both real young deer. That 8 will be real nice if he makes through another 2 years.
I stayed until about 9:30 using NightVision monocular to see if any pigs or axis showed up - the supermoon was very bright - but nada.
The two bucks bedded down in the middle of the field about 150 yards away.
One more quick sit in the morning and then heading back.
Next week at the coast if weather permits. Hoping to take the big boat out and try for marlin, wahoo, and/or tuna.

A few deer moved through just before daylight, couldn't tell what they were but I think just WT.
Have a group of axis on across the fence on the neighboring ranch that seem to be mosey this way. Can't tell if any big bucks with them. Only getting glimpses.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Those axis never crossed to this side, but there were bucks with them. Hopefully they will circle back and come out on this corner.
In the meantime, been enjoying two WT bucks at the feeder. Taking lots of pics and they don't seem to mind. A smaller, older 9pt - and very respectable wide 8pt. Maybe 20-21" wide?

Around our place the axis hardly ever come out this late, are you still watching?

Getting ready to pack up. Here they mostly show dawn/dusk about 80% of the time. But they can come through anytime during the day. Just too uncomfortable to sit all day in the summer. We have seen nice axis all through the day.
But our axis RARELY come to feeder. Better luck throwing out a little corn on travel paths. Our animals are almost always moving through somewhere. They'll bed for a couple hours, them get up and move again.
