Yes, looks like it to me. Brow tines and beams give it away.

The reason I am asking is because the deer that looks similar to him was in the same area last yr. I believe it is the same deer and im trying to make sure on his age. Just wondering what y'alls thoughts were.

Looks like the same deer to me as well. Hard to say without seeing the entire body, but I'd guess 5 from those photos.

His right browtine has the same bend backwards at the top, browtines start in the same place on the mainbeams, both have the same similarities as the year before, his right mainbeam tip is higher up at the tip in both years, beam shape is the same, and the tine shape/location are just to similar for it not the be the same buck. Hard to tell from those pics but he appears to be mature this year. Pics out of velvet in late Sept or early Oct will show his age much better. Really shows you what another (good) year on age can do with his antler growth this year.

I was thinking the exact same thing, "what happened to the double crab claws". I think that's a different buck but similar.

The falicy with crabclaws is the same with the saying "once a spike always a spike". Those crabclaws are still G4's and my guess would be last year was a bad year for rainfall. Seen to many bucks thru the years with crabclaws have them turn into really nice tines and some even added more main frame points in front of them.

He may be 4. I really think he is 5 this yr though. Saw him several times on the hoof last yr and he looked fairly mature.

Damn shame those crab claws went away. I really like them. My buck from a couple of years ago did the opposite. He went from a really nice 10 to a 9 with character. Probably due to lack of food.

Here's the post from 2 years ago. You can see how much a tough year can effect from one year to the next. But even with the drastic change they usually keep their overall shape.

Same deer with bigger frame. Agree 100% with stxranchman...deer can have off years for various reasons..typically lack of rain for natural forage being the most common. Shows strong argument for letting deer age.

Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

I also agree with stxranchman...same deer. I liked the crab claw but he is a beauty! I think he is 5.5 this season...I'd have a hard time not putting him down for a dirt nap! Post some pics when he's out of velvet please.
