My mother lives in a subdivision that is over run with deer. She would fill her bird feeders and the deer would come and knock the feeders around until they were empty eating the bird food. I got to thinking about it and when I realized how easy the stuff grows, I always see it sprouting up under bird feeders, I thought it might be worth a shot planting it in my food plots. Has anyone else tried this? I got it in the ground about about 3 weeks ago and I'm hoping that it will be a real deer magnet about mid October. Has anyone here tried this?

People do this plenty.

I have seen deer eat the leaves off of milo as it grows also. Fall milo crops can produce some real good hunting if you get the rain with your planting in this summer heat.

If you have cattle on the place, you may want to look into the toxicity or bloat potential. Not an expert but there's a faint alarm going off in my mind about the cattle issue. Then again, I may just be paranoid. I used to mix corn (for deer) with milo (for quail) in my feeders and it seems like there was some concern about the cattle eating the young milo but it's been several years now and I cant recall. May be a false alarm but it never hurts to do a little research when trying something different.

I have done it many times for a spring crop, or cover crop with other seed. I had "pet" deer that would eat it out of the bag, (they will woop your butt for fish food too.)

They will eat the head soon after it gets going good, but I have only seen them graze the plant when it was 3-6", after that, they don't seem to eat it much until the heads show.
