I recently purchased a home on the lake in Onalaska, Texas. Been scouting the back roads looking to join a hunting lease or lease a small track of land. I have seen hundreds of land posted signs for the Brushy Creek Hunting Club. Does anyone have a good contact person I can have for Brushy Creek Hunting Club?

Thanks,
A new Texas Hunting Forum Member,
Pipeliner

Thanks. I had a guy tell me yrsterday this club has thousands of acres and it's over $3000 a gun per year. Not what I'm looking for.

Any advice on other options or contacts for the Onalaska area?

Brushy Creek is high, some of the smaller properties that make up the old Brushy creek may be less. Here's a smaller tract.

Once upon a time, brushy creek was worth $3000 but not any longer. I'm not sure exactly where it started going wrong but man did it go WAAAAAAAAAY wrong with the members and then to top it all off, the deer population fell off to practically nothing. This seemed to coincide with the beginning of the long drought looking back and there were a few people that found a bunch of dead deer. Some were claiming it was poachers but I think it was EHD. Last I heard, the deer population still hasn't recovered and management is a joke.

Thanks Joel c. The story sounds sad and I hope they (both deer and hunting management) make a real come back. Sounds like you know about hunting in the area? Do you of any other clubs or landowners I could try and speak with?

Thanks again,
Pipeliner

The lease across the highway,355 I think, the one that goes from sebastapol to groveton, fountain creek hunting club, had some good deer on it back then. We were friends with some of the guys over there and they would come over and talk to us and tell us what they were seeing and killing. I can not remember the guys name right now.
Brushy creek was a dream deer lease for us for the first 4 years we were on it. I remember telling other people how lucky we were to be on a place that good that close to home, it was literally too good to be true. And then after the fourth year, the property started changing hands time and again among other issues that started arising. I haven't been on the place in 4 years now or anyone else that I stay in touch with.

C'mon now. Brushy Creek is a great lease and has great management. What did you do wrong? I only hear bad things about certain East Texas deer leases by folks asked to leave. Brushy Creek is a great lease now and in the past.

roflmao I don't think you are or have been a member of the lease to know all the the BS that was going on out there and still is last I heard. How can a bunch of goobers that know little or nothing about deer hunting run a $3000 trophy deer lease?
No, I did nothing wrong and was never asked to leave. Got tired of all the drama and political bs to go along with the fact that it had become a typical east texas deer lease where you were lucky to see a deer much less kill one among other things.

I can get that information but I really don't endorse that crew.

I hear more bad things from the ones that are currently on the lease... kinda like a good lake X .... whistle that everyone hears is good but all the people that hunt it hate the place.. roflmao

You're right. It wasn't good when I was there. The place was phenomenal for hunting. I took a 15 pointer with a drop tine and two kickers. But, the politics & drama was acrid!

Care to clarify politics and drama? Why are people that hate it hunting there still? When I hear politics I think it means management didn't give me what I wanted right or wrong. Maybe clarification will help over the vague comments of I didn't like the drama and politics. Those are things said abouts every deer lease. It's all perception. If I want drama, I can make it surrounds me. As for politics I know I get more from management with honey over vinager. I gets along no matter what deer lease you puts me on.

Thanks Reloader28. If you can furnish the contacts I would appriciate it. I am stricking out trying to find other local leases around the Onalaska area. Spoke with two other clubs and the seem to be family only members. Sent an email to the big timber land owner and they never replied.

Thanks again,
Pipeliner
