How many and which category do you have the most?

I have 8 for Gun Deer Management.

One guy in our group has 14 for Gun Deer Either Sex - it almost makes me feel guilty that I drag him down
especially because I drew Chaparral with only 8.

21 for Gun Deer - Either Sex
18 for Pronghorn - should have been more, must have got an application in too late a time or two.

I see your employer does not require drug testing.

Hey, I can be delusional and sober at the same time.

I'm banking on that grand slam, anyway. Do they ever post the stats on that? I would love to know the total number of entries on any given year.

I've never seen the stats on the Big Time hunts. Just the regular draws. I guess it's still better odds than the lotto.

Bound to be, for whatever that's worth. Still pretty slim.

I'm at 15 for Antlerless only. If it weren't for standbys, I'd never get one.

Here are some of mine:

Bighorn Sheep = 10, Exotic Only Hunt = 15, Gun Pronghorn Buck = 13, Gun Deer, Either Sex = 16, Spring Turkey = 10, Guided Gemsbok Hunt = 15, Gun Mule Deer = 7, Private Lands Either Sex = 12, Private Lands Pronghorn = 7, Guided Scimitar-Horned Oryx Hunt = 14

I consider this my annual charitable contribution to TPW... blush

But you never know... I have been on a mule deer archery hunt in Black Gap and Big Bend Ranch - on horseback and on foot(very cool). Largest Mule Deer I have ever seen was at Big Bend Ranch - huge just huge.. saw him as he was walking up out of a ravine... and I got busted by a doe.... good memories.. up

EXO - 16
GDE - 12
Spring Turkey - 13

The rest of them are 10 or less, from being Drawn, or giving up on getting Drawn.

Lost some Categories PP's in the change over to "Loyalty" Points that had been disc'd before this last change.

Started not to Apply at all this year, and did cut way back on the number of Hunts Applied for. I'll have to see how many App's there are for places and Categories I've been tracking for 10-15 years before I make that decision.

At least TPW got the Name of their program right this time, as it was Never a Preference Point Program and a farce and insult to call it that.

Really really really do not like or understand TPW's chasing the Non Res Hunter App's the way they do, and abusing Texas Taxpayers.

Governor Ann Richards ran against an opponent who properly described TPW's attitude towards Texas Taxpayers about "when the inevitability of..." well ya'll know what I'm talking about.

One thing I was happy to see was if you apply for multiple hunts within a hunt category, all of your points count on each application within that category. That should help us public hunt veterans get drawn on categories that have a lot of points accumulated, assuming that there are several hunts in it. Doesn't help on single hunt categories like pronghorn though.

I also think a lot of high point holders will get drawn this season because of that very reason and because of the second round draw. I personally don't want to just get drawn in a category. The reason I have double digit points in most categories is because I mostly only apply for the more exceptional individual hard to draw hunts. It was tempting to be like a kid in a candy store and apply to several hunts, but in the end I did not give in and most of my applications are still for a single highly sought after hunt in each category. This year, I am probably just as less likely to not draw anything as I ever was. But maybe, just maybe, I will be more likely to draw those seemingly impossible to draw hunts in the future if that pool of high point veterans that always for them gets significantly smaller.

It would be real interesting to see the full stats of the public hunt draw showing how many applications, how many loyalty points drawn applicants had, how many non residents apply and draw, how many drawn don't pay and don't show up, and so on. I am sure there are still hunters out there applying for hard to draw hunts they don't want to draw as a way to gain preference points, including adding zero point family members to reduce their draw odds. Especially non residents. I saw it in print on one of the multi state drawn hunt how to type websites. I would like to see the stats from last year to this, to see how it played out. The state was very dumb to not give a preference point only option, and to not require a previous or current year hunting license for non residents. Or to require it for all applicants. They have done nothing prevent any national anti hunting groups from blocking a hunt by flooding with easy cheap applications as they have done to hunts in other states before. In fact they made it easier for them to do so.

OHHHH Chit...I had not thought about the ANTI's antics and Hamas/alQuida like dermination.

+1 on having or had the previous year's License this 1st Year under the new Plan, or a Current Year's License to Apply,

+1 on having Non Res having a PREVIOUS or Current years Non Res License to Apply too.

I didn't see an EXO I wanted to hunt and left my 16 PP's aka LP's out of play, but I put in for some very late season GDE & GDA Hunts with low Permit #'s just to stay in the Game, and get around the rehab time I need for the Cornea Transplant that was done last week. Walking on eggshells this 1st 90 days. So far there is progress happening...

John, I also don't want to just get drawn but would like one of the "premium" hunts. That's how my points got as high as they are. I just did lot of standbys. One thing I've found though is, a few of the hunts are undiscovered gems of sort. For example, in Gun Deer Either Sex, there are 4 or 5 of them that have the potential to yield a trophy, not just the Chap. They aren't all impossible to get drawn for either.

Good luck compadre!
