Is there a legitimate reason why no title? It's not as bad a boat the biggest concerns is whether it is stolen or is there a lien on it. Go to your local tax office and get the details of what they need. They'll run it thru their system and let you know what it shows. If you haven't bought it....hold off til you do that. (Same place you can register your car.)

It's a lot more involved than filing for lost title. The only person who can do that is the last person that the trailer was actually titled to.
Now, assuming that you can find that person, and convince them to file for lost title, once it arrives they can sign it over to you and then you can register it in your name.
There's lots of stolen trailers and campers out there, sitting on someone's deer lease. Don't get caught with one. You'll have lots of 'splainin' to do.
Would you buy land without a title? How about a car? Why in thunder would you buy any titled vehicle without a title? Just plain stupid.

Oh, and another thing. You make the seller track down and transfer the title before any money changes hands. If he really wants to sell it then he'll do it. If not, move on to another.
Do not take on this task yourself. It's long and complicated and in the end you may end up with a trailer and still no title. I would never do it.

I have a old trailer that has a title, but I will be damned if I have a clue where it is. It is worth about $1500 and I am not going to spend any effort in finding the title. Doesn't mean something is fishy and doesn't mean something is stolen...means I am lazy and you missed a good deal because you are a skeptic and trust no one

And you're right, I am a skeptic because I've seen the other side of this scenario and didn't work out well for the innocent, albeit naive, 3rd party. He lost his money and his trailer. As for your title, I'm sure your wife put it up high somewhere and now you just can't reach it.

It's a pain... can be done but there's some hoops to jump through. As stated previously, ask owner to come up with it or take them with you to DMV... that'll speed it up

i wouldn't buy it. i'm like l.p. i've been on the losing side of a no-title deal, and when the lawman asks you why you have that, he's not gonna go look for ol' leroy you bought it from. if it's stolen, you're in possession of stolen property, and you get to wear the little bracelets and get a free ride to the courthouse.
too many out there to buy to take even a teeny chance. make him come up with a legit title or walk away. you won't regret it.

Mine was stolen also, about 8 years ago. Every year I call the tax office and make sure no one has tried to get registration for it.
When I find it I will be pressing charges.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

If you are taking it to your lease for good you can can get a temporary tag for the day or 2 days. I think it cost $35.00.

We bought an old Airstream for deer lease use and never titled it. We'd just drag it to the lease, with no plates, and leave it for a few years till we went to the next lease. I guess we owned it for 20 something years. Then we went to sell it, and the buyer wanted a title, since he was going to restore the Airstream and use it for travel. Last place it was titled, prior to our ownership, was in New Jersey, so I thought I'd have a real problem getting a title, but it wasn't tough to do. I went to the courthouse and explained the situation and I had to pay a fee (penalty) for never having registered it before, but there was a process for getting me a title.

Only the registered owner can apply for a lost title, otherwise I think you file for a "bonded" title. Takes awhile for all the paperwork plus you pay a bond fee.

I bought an old Airstream for the deer lease. Was previously owned by a guy in New Jersey. I had the title, but never had it transferred to my name. I dragged it from lease to lease for 25 years. Then I finally decided to sell it and THEN I needed it in my name. Well...there's a penalty for not transferring it when I bought it, but I acted broke and pitiful and the lady at the courthouse took it easy on me.
And I had a boat with no title (brother gave it to me, and he bought it from some woman who won it in a raffle). Never had been registered anywhere. That was a bit trickier, but I went to parks and wildlife with all the paperwork I had, which wasn't much, and they did it and the trailer as a lost title.
Just go to wherever you have to register it and just lay out the situation and see what they tell you. Don't go at lunchtime or late in the afternoon, when they are trying to get out of there. And don't go on a Monday or Friday. Pick a nice Wednesday, midmorning, and plead your case. And be VERY nice and pretend to be completely clueless and hope that it's a middle-aged woman. They love helping clueless folks. It's close to mothering. I do a good pitiful...

I agree with mike.. If the guy won't go through the trouble to get the title... you should let him keep it..
