Your deer hunting pack that is!! I'm putting together a deer hunting backpack and just checking my list compared to the pros out there. I wanna make sure I'm not missing anything.

I don't have one for deer. I carry twice the crap I need for elk and nothing for deer. I do bring my elk hunting pack with me. I just don't carry it in the field. If you have half the stuff in your deer pack as I do in my elk pack, you're set for the apocalypse.

I just carry my rifle and binos. Rattling horns when it is the right time of the season to use them. Will take camera and lenses sometimes also but they are in a seperate case that they stay in year round.

Most "stand/blind hunting, I dont need much, about the same as TSX and Sneaky, usually have what I need in the blind. I'll Usually just have rifle, knife, bino's, sometimes water.

Elk hunting, whole "nuther" story, but about 1/4 of what Sneaky hauls LOL

There are past threads on this, but I'll go again. I carry a small blind bag that I keep stocked with the basics
- knife
- small 'wallet' that holds both kinds of rounds I typically use
- flashlight
- TP
- zip ties and ink pen for tags
- binoculars
- small bug spray

Before I head out I throw in a few drinks/snacks, the book I'm reading, my phone/camera and my wallet with id/license. Just bought a Thermocell so I guess I'll have to take that now too.

It depends on how long I plan on sitting and if I'm bow or rifle hunting.

If I'm planning on sitting for a long time I'll take the following:

Binoculars, ammo, knife, grunt call, water, flashlight, gloves, hand warmers, doe sent of some kind and sometimes a snack.

No pack for me. I don't even carry a flash light most times, just grab my bow and start walking.

I used to carry an assembled pack when I would hunt. After several trips and moving around from personal truck to ranch vehicles to buddies vehicles I would periodically realize I was missing something. Now I just hand select everything I need for the day and pack it up. That way you don't get to where you are going and then think about ammo or arrows once you are there. Take a bit extra to engage the brain before each day and get ready, but I haven't been without since I took up this method. TP stays in the bag, truck, hunting truck, and buddy's truck if he isn't already stocked. I've got enough tube socks that get field converted to ankle socks and don't need anymore.

I ALWAYS carry a whistle I figure if I fall from a stand, or have any other issue where I need help I can blow a whistle better than yell. Oh and toilet paper in case something scares the poop outta me.

Other than that I don't really need anything where I hunt. IF I have a bag of some kind it will have a grunt call, varmit call, spare ammo, a small rope and snacks and drinks. Maybe a camera.

Do you really carry a whistle, or was that a joke?
