I am getting a chance to go on a hunt for my 40th. So I started with the coast which I have wanted to do for a long time but then Mazatlan came up because then my wife can go. Yes I would love Obregan but not good for the wife. So does any one have experience there?

I have been talking with Getducks.com which answered a lot of questions and uncovered things like having a USDA permit which I wasn't aware of. Also sending birds to Todd at Birdman Studios and he said he wouldn't charge to clear the birds with USDA. I found some people charge 50-100 a bird extra.

Forget the hunting and fish El Salto if your going to that part of the Mexico.

Been to Mazatlan three times on the way to fish El Salto and El Comedero. We have stayed at El Cid and its a really nice place.

I would read the travel advisory from the state department before I booked. I wont be going back anytime soon.

Hunted mazatlan in February of 08 and had a great time. In 09 I started going to obregon and feel it's a much better trip. My wife went to mazatlan and we had a good time. Here's what the day looks like :

Leave the hotel around 6. It's an 1:30-1:45 min drive south down the main highway(safety on this road is what has caused safety alerts). The birds are coming off the salt lagoons to get fresh water and start coming in around 9. You get 100 shells/ person and most 4-6 man hunts were over by. 11. Drive back and get to hotel by. 1. At this point we were on our own.

Honestly-go hunt obregon and then take your wife on a seperate vacation.

I'm in MX 6-8 x a yr in Mexico City, Cuernavaca, and obregon and feel 100% safe but I would check into mazatlan. My business partner that lives in MX city said he may be reluctant to go to mazatlan. Me said there is still a lot of dispute over drug turf there.
