Yeah, I know $300 ain't gonna get much. But I figured they will be better than the $100 Bushnells I'm currently using.
What 10x42's would you recommend around $300 and why?
Thanks!

Vortex Diamondback Binoculars, they are awesome. I picked up a pair on sale for 200, Amazon has them for 230. If you shop around you might be able to find them lower than 230. Also, check the bargin cave at Cabelas, sometimes you get lucky. I could not be happier with my Vortex binocs, the lifetime warranty give me peace of mind too. Vortex Binoculars

Go to cabelas or somewhere and try each one out side by side. Leupold, vortex, and nikons are easily accessed side by side.
I did that and went with Nikon Monarchs. However, I've also had eagle optics' rangers and they are by far best bang for your buck quality and durability wise. I don't think you can test them locally, but read reviews on them and you'll have piece of mind before buying them. I even ran over a pair without phasing them.

A little over budget, but the Zen-Ray ED3 10x43s are FANTASTIC!!! More well known in the birding realm, but some wonderful glass. My wife has the Vortex Diamondbacks... they are good binos for the money, but not even in the same league as the Zen-Rays. Doug at CameralandNY usually has some open-box units for around $340.

Zen-Ray is widely popular in the birding community , but not yet in the hunting world. For one, they are not super expensive. Very agronomical, glass is for nice for the money that is actually spent on owning a pair. If you on a budget, you couldn't ask for a nicer pair of bino. http://swfa.com/Zen-Ray-Binoculars-C2698.aspx

I love my Zen-Rays. I have ED3 I found them thru the birding forums. The ZenRay is probably the best binocular no one has heard of. I have both the ED1 and ED3. I'm in Africa now and gave the ED1 to my tracker, Molefi. He promptly spotted a bedded kudu bull from high ground at some some god-awful distance. With my Leica and 60-something eyes, I could only make out a grayish patch. ZRs are made in China, as are the lower priced Vortex, so your dollar goes a long way. And if you don't like Chinese, well then chunk your computer and iPhone, because we can't avoid pacific rim products any more. Another bino that is a rebadged ZR is the Promaster. It is identical in every way, and I bought one off Amazon for my brother's wife prior to our trip to Africa. I paid $199.
