Rain or shine, bring on the doves! But I'd strongly prefer rain to keep my duck ponds full!

Right now seeing alot of whitewings flying closer to town rather than over the open field areas of Katy and Brookshire.
The land owner of the place I hunt in waller said hes covered in em again. I love hunting that 15 acre cow pasture out there, it aint failed me in 10 or so years.

Never in a million years would somebody from Texas ever say this.

You need your head examined. We're still in one of the worst droughts we've seen in a long time and you'd pray for a dry august for some dove. Wow. Tell that to the farmers and cattle ranchers.

I like the rain, keeps my water bill down not having to water the yard.

Will say my best dove and duck year was 2011 when there was no rain and fires were just 15 miles north of me. But i'd never want anything like that to happen again

It was a great hunting year, probably my best one ever.

But, we lost an old barn to flames and had no choice but watch the flames get closer and closer to our house.

All of our friends and family brought trucks and trailers to load up every single thing we had in this house. This is my dad's house, where he lived growing up. His father built this place with his own two hands.

When you see flames coming, many many things start going through your mind. You suddenly realize what in that house is important to you, and what's not. Wouldn't wish that upon anybody.

So for somebody to wish it were to stay dry for a dam bird needs to open their eyes.

Not to mention having to sell more than half the herd of cattle, that's a whole different story.

I think his statement comes from the common knowledge that it always seems to rain the day before dove season. Especially if that week you scouted out a stock tank to hunt opening morning. I do hope we get rain this month. If we don't, the fields will not do well, some will fail, local dove will move on, and many of the migrant dove will pass us by.

Keep the rain coming, fires stay away, and be out there for the openers and beyond! Spend time with good family and friends, don't get much better than that!

Water holes along highway 380 between Post and Brownsfield were almost dry last week. We saw quite a few dove on the highline wires in and around the few grain fields, but the best dove numbers were around pasture land.

Whole Air Wings of white wing dove out there.

Lots of 'em flying in 4 and 6 bird strike packages, too.
