I'm on the fence about this one. Although inconvenient, hunter recruitment is important and I feel an extra $10 may be hinder people from trying out duck hunting if they only are planning one or 2 hunts to see if they like it. I know it doesn't seem much, but for the younger crowd that needs recruited, it can be. Going to college, I was told no many times on invites after I say, "all you need to buy is a $15 federal duck stamp." Not even factoring shells, state stamp, etc (don't get me started on what they'd spend that money on instead). Now that I'm more financially secure, my beginning of season purchase of 2 stamps would come in handy. On the other hand, I think it is past time for an increase, and feel the $10 will help tremendously facing the increased land prices. It will do more than offset the handful of folks that it will turn away too, and doubt sales will decrease. We all hope dollars are used for what it is designed for, and no crazy riders will be on the bill. That's politics though, and no place for those arguments here. Story found here: Duck stamp price increase passes House

I agree and have no problem with it, this is really a drop in the bucket compared to the amount money spent on everything else. The increase is not even three gallons of gas which I would burn in just one scouting trip in my boat. I take a lot of teenagers and a few adults new to hunting each year and have never had anyone complain about having to buy a stamp to go, they understand how much everything else cost. I will be being a few stamps this season myself.

I completely agree that it would shy some people away.
I have a few friends who I still get shut down by simply because they have to buy a waterfowl stamp.

It is what it is. Got to pay to play. BTW this same argument about duck stamps and duck hunters has been going on since I started duck hunting 30 some odd years ago.

And I'm sure the argument will live on for many years to come. Bottom line, like Jeff said, "Got to pay to play!" or possibly pay a hefty fine.

As a guide, that would make my job much easier. Or you wouldn't have a job, not sure how many people would want to pay $175 to go kill 3 ducks.

While this is true, I can't help but think that a lot of folks would. Heck, they pay more to kill 2 cranes sometimes. Another club down the road from us charges $425 per gun (I think) for a morning hunt. Those people are on a different level.

I have no issue with an increase, bought a stamp the last few years and only went once or twice. Last year the stamp never even made it on my license

Give our take with $60 you can hunt in Texas. Europe, not so much, about $500 a year license, hunting exam extremely difficult (35% passing rate) Ammo...$40 a box all non tox required, non moving decoys allowed, fuel $9 a gallon, income tax 50% Some just don't realize how good they have it! Peace

Story found here: Duck stamp price increase passes House Point made, but if the younger college crowd has no problem shedding a $20 note to add some kick to the gatorade cooler prior to their infamous and yet so boring beer pong match up, i am confused hearing them complain about a lil stamp with a duck face on it.

I don't see $10 bucks making much difference in someone trying the sport or getting into it. Small potatoes in the big picture.
