My BiL and I have pretty much decided to book a self guided aoudad hunt in SW TX. Just curious if anyone else has done this? Any pointers/comments? Also anyone that has hunted or hiked in "mountainous" or rocky terrains, what is a good high quality boot that you would recommend?

Talk to Mulie Mike. He's has a heck of an outfit for that.
As for boots, I'm breaking in a pair of Kennetrek Mountain Extremes that are very nice. I recommend those if you want a heavy duty boot with great support.
For warm weather hunts in tough terrain, my go to boots are some Browning upland boots. I like the upland boots because they're light and as quiet as a hunting boot can be. The soles are softer. They don't last long, but they are worth it for hunts like that.

I love my Danner's as far as boots go. Definitely need good glass. If you hadn't hunted Aoudad before, watch as many You-tube videos as you can. Reason for this is you will see how difficult it is to initial sight these animals, especially in rocky areas. I was amazed how difficult it is to spot a non moving Aoudad on my first hunt. Take a good pack and definitely a good rifle strap that you can move your rifle to your back or attached safely to your pack (common with the guides) so that you can navigate steep trails using a hiking stick or have your arms and hands free. Lots of water! Be patient and glass side of hills including crevasses and cracks meticulously. These animal like to hide. Look for dust bowls in the area to show signs of recent activity. When you spot a herd, move slow and quietly. They can bust you 400 yards away!

Get a good set of Danners or Meindls. You will need the best optics you can afford. Binos and a spotting scope are a must. I have hunted Aoudad all over Big Bend areas and canyons in the Panhandle. Glass glass glass
