Help me out here guys...are these guys ready to shoot yet? I know they aren't big enough if there were Rocky Mountain Elk, but these are of the smaller variety, and I have even been told they are mixed with red deer. I am not sure what kind of difference that would make?? They have been hanging around our place for a couple of years now and I want to shoot one, but don't want to pull the trigger too soon! Can anyone on here share any information with me? As far as what kind of elk they are? Are they mixed with red deer? How big do they get? How old they are now and how old should they be to shoot them? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!! BTW, the picture says 3/4/13, I need to fix the date on my camera, this picture was taken around the end of June. I saw these two in person about two weeks ago and they are a little bit bigger than they were in the picture. The picture doesn't do them any justice, they are quite impressive in person!

look like red stags to me, note the "crown" formation at the top of the antlers and I'd wait if you can....

They look to be Red Stags. They need a couple more years to grow, they are young.

The one on the left is going to be very good in 2 to 3 years. The very even double crowns are a nice feature.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Cool...At one point I had showed some pictures of them to a couple of guys that I really thought knew their stuff and they told me they thought they were elk/red deer mixed. Good to know they aren't! It is going to be hard to let them walk for another couple of years because I know of some people around us that will blast them the first chance they get, but I will hope for the best. I think they pretty well stay on our land since we have plenty of good cover, always have water, and we feed year round. I know that we do have a few elk running around. I will see if I can find some pictures of them and post them to see what y'all think...maybe I am way off base about them too haha
Thanks for the feedback!
