Anyone have any big blackbuck they may be interested in trading for a 130-140" type free range whitetail??? I have some big 8 pts in that range I would consider trading for a good blackbuck.

Good for you. I can sell the whitetail and pay cash for a hunt . Blackbuck hunt is worth about the same as a whitetail in that range looking at pricing.

The only problem is, a rancher that has a 18" blackbuck or a guy with a lease that has one, more than likely will have 130" class deer on their place as well. I'm not agrueing the value of what you feel its worth. I'm just saying 130" deer these days are easy to come by across the state. To get a guy that has one on his lease you just need to hope that he doesn't have any whitetails. Hopefully you will find one of those that does not have deer that big or a chance at one on their place and yet has blackbuck. You just have to keep looking. Maybe you can get someone that is out of state that would be interested in that deal. That would be good.

It can work, but you may have better success getting a guy from out of state to do it. I have a good friend of mine that invites some guys from Kansas to come hunt hogs on his river bottom property every year. Each year he goes up to Kansas and shoots a 150"-172" whitetail buck.

Am I reading that correctly? Maybe I need more coffee. Are you saying that you have 200" class deer for sale for $4000-$5000? I don't think I quite understood what you wrote and I nearly fell out of my chair.I'm not trying to be insulting or anything like that, but I thought deer of 200" caliber sold for about $11000 - $13000 or so. Everyone has different price so, never really know for sure.

I'll take one of your 200" bucks for $5,000 just let me know.... I'll also take one of those 140" deer that your giving away

But as for the trade, I've traded guys weekend dove hunts for some pretty cool hunts for exotics and offshore fishing trips. You never know if you don't ask. If I had blackbucks I would trade you even though we have a lot of management bucks on our place, I'd like the chance to hunt somewhere different if given the chance.

Good point. Some may not believe this, but even for those of us that own our own place we love to go hunt other places. Many reasons why its that way but I hear that from a lot of other ranchers. Mostly because you don't want to hunt your own stuff. You see it every day. Your out there all the time with clients. Everyone wants a new scene now and then and its good to go out and fellowship with another person that may be in the same business or see a different lease. I have a friend of mine that is in Houston that has a place near me with 1500 HF. My place is a lot smaller and he comes out to hunt mine now and then and even brings his family. He's a lot better off than I and has a spectacular place. But I learn a lot from him and I go to his place to help out when he needs it. It's just the way it is. I have other friends in the business that want to hunt other places too. The trouble is the majority of us are so busy we can't get away to do anything else so we look for a place to go away from ours and pray its out of cell phone range so we can't be disturbed. smile

Something I just thought of. My buddy that I was talking about that hunts in Kansas did this.

Find you a farmer up north that sells hay. Alfalfa hay or the like. Work a deal with one of them. Usually you can start a trust off by ordering a truck load of hay and having it delivered down here. Sell it to some HF ranches and deer breeders. It's to to be really good hay though. The quality you want to feed your horses and no blister beetle. It may mean you may have to go up there to do it and talk to them or you may be able to do it by phone. That's a lot of hard work, but a lot of those guys up there will not mind coming down to Texas to come hunt. You could find you a really nice place to hunt some whitetails or a pheasant hunt. Maybe a goose hunt too. Earn their trust first with a good business deal and the opportunity will be created.

It seems to me there is a big demand for over 150 -190 in shooter deer and then for the 200+ stuff. The quality of the heards are getting better and they people are starting to look at the under 150 in deer as just a management style hunt and therefor are not charging as much to get them off of their ranches.

As for hunting other places. I usually save tip money from the season and do some sort of hunt in Feb. every year. It is a way for me to see new ranches and be on the other side of the stand.
