I have the head and hide (2 separate pieces) in the freezer of a nice buck I killed this past December.
Initially, I was going to do a Euro mount myself and send the hide off to North Texas Tannery.
Now I'm starting to wish that I would've done a shoulder mount. I have the head with the skin still on, which is cut off just below the skull. This is completely detached from the rest of the hide, which starts at the same cut at the base of the skull.
Can a taxidermist salvage this and make a shoulder mount? Do taxidermists sew?
I realize I could get another cape, but I'm not interested in that. If that's the case, I'll just go back to my original plan and do the Euro and tan the hide.

You would have to get a different hide for it

Yes, taxidermist sew. Can what you are describing be done? Yes. Will it look like crap? 99% chance it will.
Get another cape, shoot another this year to replace it, or do a euro.

Just figured I'd show the almost end result. Looks pretty nice for a rookie job.
