I have a small property in Edwards county
It is in a divided ranch subdivision that is no longer an active subdivision.
I have a copy of the subdivision plat showing my eastern border but not exact angles or yardages
I was thinking of laying the plat border outline over a satellite image but I doubt this will be very accurate.

Whats the best way to locate the measurement of my eastern border?
I can locate a couple of the rebar markers in the ground but not all of them.
I contacted the county tax office and it sounded like they only have the subdivision plat also but I haven't gone to the office yet to confirm.

The problem is I have a new neighbor to my east who has his kids running 4 wheelers up and down a trail the splits our two properties. I think most if not all of the trail is on my property but before I put a gate up I need to confirm it is in fact on my property..

The county should have a survey on file, or reference the survey you were provided when you bought the property or get a new one.

Approximate aint gonna cut it when it comes to property line disputes / fencing.

Edwards county will have a recorded copy of the plat with ALL dimensions. It should also be referenced in your deed or an attachment to your deed, also found at your county courthouse. My husband and I own a land surveying company, a surveyor will be able to mark your corners for you.

Its not expensive to have a survey company come out and set stakes

I had a similar issue in which my west boundary was in thick timber and the old fence was mostly nonexistent. I has legal description and knew "about" where the line was, but eventually had to hire a surveyor to come in and mark the line either wooden stakes. I quickly drove T-posts beside each wooden stake. I had them mark the line on high points rather than any certain distance apart and I can mostly see from stake to stake. In reality, even if you have a legal description and survey, you still have to find the line "On the ground". If there is no fence, or stakes, I think you will be forced to hire a surveyor to mark the line. Others can better answer this, but I think they now can use quality GPS rather than the older transit technique.

If there's no fence, what good is a gate going to do? I'm a bit baffled by that. Be careful about erecting something where kids are used to riding their four wheelers. If you put something up one day and the next day someone gets hurt as a result, you can be held liable. Get a surveyor to mark your corners. Maybe your new neighbor will help out on marking the boundary and putting up some fencing. It doesn't sound like you've talked to him/her.

Marking the corners won't get it done unless you can see from one to the other and have the ability to mark points in the middle with some sort of sighting instrument or stretch a wire between the two points. If you build a fence it needs to be on the line, not close to the line.

It all depends, how many acres, visibility, can you see a clear line of sight from front to back. Are there a lot of over head trees near property corners. This all matters, can they use GPS or have to go in and cut line for a total station? County might not have a survey on record, but they will have a legal description. Any reputable surveyor can locate and build bounderies of the legal description. If you happen to know who surveyed it before they might still have your original survey on record.

When you have a surveyor come out and mark the corners they can also mark "POLs" Points on Line, at intervals of your choosing. Keep in mind every point costs a little bit extra. If you are hiring a fencing company ask them how far apart they want the POL to be, If you are doing it yourself take into account the brush and any hills that will limit your visibility and availability of stretching a line.
