Small area like a yard or garden use mole traps

Large area like a pasture rent an applicator from a feed store and poison them.

I have a dog that will excavate your entire yard, to hunt down those pesky critters and kill them.
I'm sure there is a better way, but I haven't had moles since she started hunting them.

Freeze em off or just cut em off with a small snipper.

I use the "out-o-sight" mole traps and they work once you learn how and where. Caught a huge one early this spring that was terrorizing the place, big ole male. Been after a few here lately as well, but smaller trails.

I have had good luck completely flooding any trails/mound that are at the base of a tree. They like to burrow and nest in the root system, so I try to drown the little ons if they are there. Adult mole can dig 90' a minute, so drowning them with a hose is next to impossible. A real good flooding rain helps since everything gets flooded at once.

My lab makes short work of them. I always know when she gets one she leaves it on the back porch.
I tried all kinds of things to get rid of them in the past. The only thing I had any luck with is those traps that drive the three prongs in the ground. I never tried the out of sight mole trap.

Buddy of mine hooked a hose to his truck exhaust and gassed them out. He swore it worked, I can only say I have never seen another mound in his yard

Tractor Supply Mole Trap
We have used this type of trap with good luck. On the new ones you push it down just enough to keep is from springing back. If you push it all the way down it is not sensitive enough.

Plant caster beans around an area and no moles. Not exactly what would want in a yard but works great around a garden or larger area. Parents did that for years.

Hills? Mounds? Are you sure you have moles (insectivores) or do you have pocket gophers (rodents)?

Gophers leave mounds randomly across the yard. The dirt mounds are 12-24" across and 8-12" high. The mounds sorta resemble a connect-the-dots pattern in the lawn. Gophers eat roots mainly. They are pests for sure.

Moles construct a meandering shallow tunnel across the yard. The top of the tunnel is raised slightly above ground level. There are usually no mounds at all, although sometimes there will be a small hill. Moles eat insects and grubs. They are quite beneficial.

I found some little gas/smoke thingies that looked like dynamite sticks at the feed store. Stuffed a few in certain holes with nothing sticking out but the fuses. Lit 'em up and a few minutes started seeing smoke coming from other holes. As I spotted smoke I covered that hole too. Guess I got 'em all 'cause I haven't see any in a while. I think most of my problem was gophers......

Good Luck... Them are aggravating little critters!

Sure they do? but they look different than a Gophers mound. Not all moles will mound though, usually if they have dug deep.

My yard is covered in mole tunnels, so are my neighbors, I have yet to see any kind of hill or mound. Gophers will definitely make a hill / mound.

I was going to suggest castor beans but they are poison so I didn't bother. My nephew in Ok put them in gopher holes in his yard to rid himself of gophers some years back and says they work.
