Don't post much but read site daily. Here's my question............Ranger Crew or Trans Mule? Ranch and hunt in Throckmorton County. Feed cattle, check cattle, build fence, 85 year old Dad that will use as well. Not a trail rider so I don't think the 25 mph governor is a factor and vehicle will stay on ranch. Will use in wheat fields and brush. Mud, if it ever rains. Haul supplies, kids, feed, deer, hogs, dove hunters and dog.

Also, Mule has 2 person/4 person option and 3 year warranty. Ranger 6 month warranty?

Let your experience talk. Thanks for your advice.

I'd say ranger just cause the ride is smoother for your dad.

I'd say Mule because the bed is 49 inches all through the tailgate. I've seen people having trouble hauling plywood and other 4 by 8 sheets in the Ranger.

Trans Mule....put the back seat down to extend the bed and still fit 3 in the front...I drive all over the ranch in Bosque with both vehicles and there is not that huge of a difference in the ride..Other than the Ranger is much faster....

I just bought a mule trans a few months ago. We love it, although i do wish it went about 10mph faster as i drive it on blacktop alot, but i knew of the speed before i bought it. If your looking for a machine to haul butt up and down rough ranch roads, chase cows across a pasture at high speeds, go with a ranger. If your looking for a solid, long lasting, slow and steady workhorse, go with a mule. It does ride alot rougher, but your long term repair costs will be much lower and i honestly believe it will outlast the ranger buy a long shot from my experience, my uncle has three rangers.

I've taken several mule owners (big west Texas ranches) out in my Ranger. They now own Rangers.

Buy a shaft drive not a belt drive.
Kubota. It will outlast all of those plastic toys.

If 25 mph is fast enough for you mule is the way to go. The 3 year warranty says a lot about the product alone. The steel bed and floor is also a plus for the mule compared to the plastic of the ranger. The mule is designed to be the workhorse of the utv market.

I have a Kubota UTV diesel. Not fast and not particularly comfortable, but it's built like a battle tank. Never had the slightest problem with it in the 650 hours we have on it. Probably if I had a lot of mud on the place, the Kubota could be a problem. Ground clearance isn't high and it just isn't that great in the mud if you don't have the mud tires (which I don't). But for a workhorse, nothing else will touch it. Had a huge load of firewood in it a couple of days ago and I drove over to my hydraulic splitter, raised the hydraulic dump bed and dropped the load in 3 seconds. If I need to go fix fence, I can throw all my stuff and a bunch of t-posts into the steel bed of the Kubota and take it to the job. I guess the best way to put it is that your non-Kubota toys are recreational, whereas the Kubota is commercial.

On the other hand, if you just want a fun toy that will go fast and splash the puddles, this isn't the machine for you. And I will admit that there are times that I want to go fast and splash the puddles.

The Kubota cup holders will hold a wine bottle. Just sayin...

I owned 3 six by six Rangers over the past ten years. The first one was awesome - no issues. The next two not so much. Lots of issues - and you are correct - a 6 month warranty says a lot. In addition when I went to dealer/Polaris corporate on an issue that should have been covered under warranty, I was totally ignored.

Changed last year to the Kubota 1100 following lots of research. The enclosed cab with AC/Heat/etc. is heads above any cab you can buy on any other ATV. The Kubota is not as fast as the Polaris but plenty fast enough for me (will run 20-25 mph). The suspension is not as good as Ranger but still plenty comfortable. Otherwise, no comparison. The Kubota is built like a tank/tractor and the diesel should run forever

Had a mule, it was great. Have a kubota now and it's even better.

I don't want the speed of the other UTV's. I see too many stories of folks getting hurt in crashes, rollovers, etc. And I have known some folks who were hurt bad. You mentioned kids. Are they going to drive it now or in the future? Kids get over-confident with a little experience and don't realize how quick a situation can go sideways. Stay away from fast SXS's.

God is so good to me.

If you are wanting ride comfort, durability, and great tow/haul capability, then I would reommend the Can Am Commander. I traded my Ranger for a new 2012 Commander and have been more than satisfied. It greatly out performed the Ranger. It's been a solid machine for me.

Just a six month warranty my kawi has a three year , rangers are just way over rated to me.

My cousin has had a Polaris Sportsman 500 and a Ranger (not sure of model). Both have spent a lot of time in the shop. Just saying.

I have a Kubota RTV 900 that's mostly used for farm chores but as others have said, it's like a tank.

Rangers require a good bit more maintenance then low speed UVs and air cooled models. But if you keep up with them they are great tools. Cub Cadet makes a really heavy UV that is made to do a lot of work. It weighs 500lbs more than even the Polaris crew. Just go look at as many as you can and get the one that fits you best.

Nav is it the Cub Cadet that has the radiator/fan under the hood and not down behind the bumper like a Ranger or Mule?

I like that setup to keep seeds and leaves out of the radiator.
