This last weekend we had a guy who instead of helping tape targets in between shooters he was stealing everyone's brass. So I'm going to start marking my brass for competitions and was thinking paint would be good so I could see it from a distance. Does anyone do this and what kind of paint do you use and where can I buy it?

No way would I go to the trouble. If you see the bastard doing it, call him out. He's obviously not worthy as a fellow shooter or has much to learn. Teach him. Or run him off. No le hace.

Had the same trouble when I shot IDPA.
Mark the heads with a permanent marker.
I'd let everyone know that your's are marked when the time to police up the brass comes.

I'd call that guy out on taking my brass. That would thoroughly piss me off, since the absolute best brass for my rifle is second fired .003" shoulder bump, and all trimmed the same, so I hate losing it.
Red, blue, and green Sharpie marker works well for coloring brass.

Red, blue, and green Sharpie marker works well for coloring brass. Exactly. I'd use a colored Sharpie of your choice. I used to mark the case head, but you can't see it very well when it's laying on the ground. So, I make a ring or two around the entire circumference of the case body so you can easily see it on the ground. I'm shooting a 6.5x47 Lapua now, and at near $1 a piece, they would only try to take it once! We have had this issue in the past at rifle comps. You have to watch them and weed them out.

You have obviously not been around the sport very long. Many people will mark their brass with a sharpie. Some across the head stamp and primer, some around the rim, and others around the case body itself. Are you sure he was keeping the brass for himself? Some clubs will have everyone pitch brass in a bucket and then sort it out at the end of the match.

Have you checked out Brian Enos' forum? There's plenty of good info there.
