Just got my Vancouver Island bear taken last June back from the taxidermist. They did a nice job. This is right out of the shipping container with no smoothing or placement. I still am not sure where he is going. He squared just over 7 feet.

I can't see any rubs at all on the bear. Beautiful!

Clay, it should go on the wall, not on the floor. Perhaps in your office, even. They look best hung at an angle, with the head SE or NW, etc. Rugs on the floor don't hold up for long, especially if any pets or grandkids are apt to be around.

I was over at my brother's house just this evening. He showed me his 6'10" blackie he'd just hung on the hall wall. The head is in the NW position, and it's a perfectly furred bear.

Congrats! Nothing like the memories invoked by excellent taxidermy.

Thanks guys and yes, looking for a good spot on the wall. He did have a little rubbing on his feet but the taxidermist made it hardly noticeable. The rest of his coat was fine.

Congratulations, I think that is cool. I've always wanted a bearskin rug just like that.

Thanks! He is by far the biggest attention getter of all my animals so far. Especially the ladies-as they just assume they are bloodthirsty man-eaters. smile

Who did you hunt with? Is it still spot and stalk only?

You know, I haven't measured it.

I hunted on Vancouver Island with Sean Lingl of Canadian Guide Outfitters. Yes, spot and stalk in the cutover areas/logging roads in the mountains. If you've ever seen any of Shockey's guided black bear hunts it was just like that. Guide was watching another opening and this one lumbered out across the road I was watching and was crossing a small opening. I tapped the guide on the shoulder and he said "Shoot that bear!" So I did.
