I would go Howa, I have a weatherby vangaurd and I love it. They share the same action etc.

Both are good rifles. I've never had a Remington that wasn't accurate. Howa's are typically just as accurate not as many after market options out there for them as there is 700 though.

I love my Howa 1500. It's a great rifle. But a Rem 700 is no slouch either. Pick the one that has the features and/or feel you like best. Can't go wrong with either.

To me, the question of 700 any model versus a comparably priced any other rifle comes down to how much do u think you want to customize it. If the potential for future customization is important to you, then the 700 is probably the better choice. However if you just want something to shoot without messing around much with it, then usually the other brand is better. I usually base this on how much I hate, despise and loathe the 700 trigger. So to me you automatically need to put some funds into correcting the trigger on any 700.

I own a Remmy 700 Varmint and it's a very accurate rifle. Add a new trigger as well as a better stock and it's even better. When it comes to shooting rifles I'm still a rookie, but even with my minimal experience I can keep my gun sub MOA. As a matter of fact, I had my son in law making hits on 10" x 12" piece of steel at 500 this past weekend. I bet he's only shot a bolt gun a total of 50 rounds and most of that was over the past two weeks.

Own several remmys and 22'250 howa.
I perfer the initial overall rifle of remington (stock, trigger, etc)
Howa is a great rifle though, if you go howa, get a timney trigger right off the bat.

As much as I am a 700 fan, I've NEVER seen a HOWA not shoot lights out.

I own 3 rem 700's all with original triggers that have all been great rifles.
I own a wby vanguard same as howa and it has been a great rifle.
I think you will be hard pressed to find a performance difference that is more than a bs personal preference other than the 700 having more aftermarket goodies.
Out of the 10 or so rem 700's that my immediate family owns that have been manufactured over the past 30 years to present all will shoot great and none have had work done.

I have a couple 700s and a couple Vanguards. New 700s aren't the same quality as older 700s. But like mentioned, Remington has a ton of aftermarket stuff made for them. If you will be fine with the gun as is, I would go Howa.

howa or vanguard over these newer Remy's, I like the old Remy's over the new stuff, but really like the howa & vanguards, good luck

I'm almost leaning towards the Howa, based on what I've seen with performance. Those Howa's are just nicea, I'm a 700 sucker either way. I'm fixing to be a Tikka snob soon tho. Doh! I'm so confused!!!!!

I have a couple 700's and like them. The Howa is good too. In the same price range, you can get the new Browning A-bolt 3. It has more features than the 700 ADL. The Howa, Vanguard and 700 ADL's are all cheaper knock-offs of originals. The A bolt 3 is as well, but still has a lot of features packed into it.

Out of the 10 or so rem 700's that my immediate family owns that have been manufactured over the past 30 years to present all will shoot great and none have had work done. I'll modify my statement. Went to Academy last night to look a few guns over, they ended up not having any of what I was looking for, but had a rem 700 adl... I would not buy a new one, unless Academy caries a different/cheaper variety than other places. Fit and finish was lacking, appears several parts are made cheaper, attention to quality is not the same. I have supported rem because I own and love the ones I have, possibly the higher lines bdl, cdl etc are still quality, but the adl etc. at academy was junk.

They Howas/ vanguard 2s are really nice actions, I really dont like the triggers. However if I ever wanted to build a custom out of it later or buy new accessories I would say 700 all the way, but I would get the BDL. The main reason is the Howas are metric and progressive threads a re-barrel down the road is easier with the 700.

Just put a set of rings and bases on a friends Howa 1500 SS 308. Pretty impressed with it plus it has a hinged floor plate where an ADL does not. Good trigger right out of the box too.
