In your opinion what is the best gun safe for the money? Looking to spend $1000 to $1500 and I think I need about 30min of fire protection

Liberty manual dial was my choice and was in that price range and fire rating.

Research the wall thickness, weight, and ability to pry the door. Go bigger, did I say go bigger- and go as expensive as you can stand. You will have the thing forever-divide the cost by 20 years.

Check Fort Knox. I know of Browning reps who buy Fort Knox safes and I've had one for years. Worth every penny.

I would stay away from the Chinese made retail store brands and go with a US build safe like Fort Knox or Champion.

Tractor Supply has some basic units for decent money. I picked up mine from the Cabela's Bargain Cave, but they're not in there very often.

I made the mistake of buying one of the Cannon Safes from Tractor Supply. I already had a Liberty Safe that I really liked, as well. Cannon Safe's locks tend to have very poor tolerances and sometimes it would take 15 to 20 minutes to get mine open. I've never had any troubles with Liberty, and they are always my recommendation for best bang for the buck. I also have an American Security and a Redhead brand safe.

You won't find an actual American made safe for that kind of money unless it's tiny. I'd love to have a Champion, or an AMSEC but the same size safe as mine(tall, 45 gun) was around $8000. Mine was $1699 delivered inside my garage, plus I got an extra shelf and dehumidifier for free and it has a 1hr. @ 1875 deg. fire rating. I do dislike having a Chinese safe, but it's a well-built piece of equipment.

Most of your safes use layers of sheet rock for fire protection. I have a friend whose giving me his deceased FIL's very large safe that was turned upside down and the base sawed out. If you check most have a 10ga. Wall and 1/4" door. Make sure you bolt it down in an area least accessible. That way it cannot be stolen intact with a winch truck.

I have the Winchester 24 gun I bought at Tractor Supply. I have been very pleased with it for the price $600. I know of 5 other people that have this same safe and know of no issues with theirs. The hammered silver finish looks good making it an attractive safe inside my home. My son bought his for his new home recently on sale for $550.

My Liberty Colonial is Made in the USA and is the 35 cu/ft. They reduced the size to 30 cu/ft now.

Buy the best and biggest you can afford!

For the more expensive safes I like Browning and for moderately priced safe I like the Winchester Silverado. I have both and they are great.

You'll fill up any size you buy. Triple it!!! You'll find yourself keeping important papers in it. Spare gun parts and magazines take up space too and are best stored in the proximity of the weapon they belong to.

Good lighting is a must. I'm still fumbling with a flashlight in my mouth.

Buy some battery operated motion lights that are designed for hallways and mount them with velcro. For about 15$ you have an illuminated safe when the door opens.

I bought a Browning safe. I know you can buy better safes, but its definitely not bottom of the barrel either.
