I bought my son a 788 in .223 last year.

I put a Nikon Prostaff on it and it is great little shooter.

Very nice. I have one in .243 and love it. I plan to put a wooden stock back on it one day.

I have one in 22-250 and it is a smooth little rifle. Just got a new 4x12 scope, and its gonna be my varmint rig.

It will shoot good. No doubts. I refinished the stock on mine when I was a kid, then again 20+ years later... looks just like the one you got for your boys. I know they'll enjoy it.

My first varmint rifle, Model 788 (where I get 788 in my screen name). Purchased in the late 70's, 22-250, still using it today for coyotes. Accurate right out of the box. Good choice eneat1119

I've got two 222's and my first rifle is a 22/250 788. All shoot great. I worked up a load in one 222 and that load shoots just as good (.3) 5 shot group in the other. Very accurate rifles. I did the triggers and they are just ok. My son shot a nice 8 pt with my 22/250 this year (stock is shortened) and made me proud. You will be glad you bought it.

Got a 30-30 that was on Gunbroker, shoots almost as good as the 44Mag.

788's 223, 7mm-08, 30-30 and 44Mag, have owned a few in 243 and 223 as well. All have been good shooters.

When I was in my teens my buddy had the .243 carbine version.
Shot great, very cool rifles, I always wanted one in 7-08.

Did you buy it from Hartca? I sold mine to him last year. If that is my old one, it shoots great. Kicking myself for selling it.
