Anyone here despise turkey's during deer season? I love spring hunting but don't appreciate them eating all my corn I work hard for.

Few weeks ago I laid out 10 lbs of corn and had a feeder. 10 minutes before feeder goes off 40 corn thieves run in and start hitting my corn lines. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I shoot one thinking they will leave. Well they don't and keep eating so run out and grab my turkey and they reluctantly leave. 5 minutes later my son says here they come again. I run out and scare them off. 10 minutes later they come back so I send him out to scare them off. 5 minutes later they come back and same thing. We see them again and a finally a pig scares them off. They must be trained. They'll probably disappear in the spring when I want them around. taz

Sounds like that would have been a funny video to watch if you had filmed it.

Hate turkeys!!! They're as bad as hogs in my eyes. I don't hunt them in the spring, so I have 0 respect for them.

I've got the same "problem". My feeders throw twice a day and they have the times burned into their pea sized brains. They eat all the corn in about 5 minutes then they leave nothing for the deer. bang

My turkeys are aggressive on top of it and will sometimes chase the deer away. Turkeys have excellent vision and you can usually waive your hand outside the blind to scare them away as long as no deer are around.

I like to Spring hunt turkeys, so I take the good with the bad. I set my timers real early and late, keeps allot of winged varmints at bay.

My am timer goes off just at daylight and usually the deer are there by the time the last kernel hits the ground. Evening is a tad harder, I set that one 45 minutes before dark, but deer are usually there waiting.

You boys having problems with Turkeys, just need to give me a call about the 2nd week of March. Show me the boundaries of the place and I can help you with your turkey problem!!!and at no charge...
I am from Mississippi and spring turkey season is almost a religion there. I do love it dearly love it. If you have not tried it before you are missing out on a lot of fun. Calling a big gobbler up is so much more fun than hunting a feeder.

Several years back we had a place on the San Saba River outside Menard. Deer hunting was pretty good, lots of animals. But the turkeys, WOW...

It was nothing to see 100 of them during a hunt and they LOVE corn. The Spring Turkey hunting was awesome and as such we tried to save our tags, but we were forced to take a few each deer season just to put the fear of God in them a little bit!

We've got a blind in a creek bottom and with all the tall trees over the feeder, the turkeys roost in the trees and as soon as the feeder goes off they come down off the roost and devour all the corn. They fight and make all kinds of racket, and you can forget about waving your cap or even getting out of the stand and run them off they come right back. I've even got a bucket of rocks and a sling shot just to run off turkeys.
One of our hunters limited out one evening. He shot one and they wouldn't leave so he just kept on shooting until he filled his tags.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I gather rocks about the size of footballs and place them where I spread corn. When the turkeys show up I dust one of the rocks. They generally leave me alone for the rest of the day. If that does not work then I aim for the head of a nice young hen - my grandson loves it chicken fried.

Turkeys are corn eating machines.....I hunted Brown county last week and at one point on to different occasions on different days I has 28-30 turkeys under the feeder. Both times they pretty much sucked up every kernel of corn with in a 20 foot radius of the feeder in less than 10 minutes. But.....I did have a spike buck still come in to check the feeder. So while they can be a pain I think it still pays to stay in the stand, quite, and just wait for the deer to come check the feeder. (but it sure was tempting ) rifle

Just set your feeder to go off twice each hunt, reduce the times so the same amount of corn is thrown as you throw now but an hour apart. Most times they hit it the first time and move on. When you throw food in the living room of wild animals they tend to eat it, its weird. Ive never seen deer specific corn, damn those animals for feeding.

Been there, tried that, it doesn't work! They aren't as dumb as people say they are!
Anyway, the best thing to do is just chase them away, and if they roost nearby, wait until they are all up in the roost after dark and scare them off the roost. Do that and they will move to another area, but they still come back once left alone.

I don't try to run off them or anything else. I wish I had em at my feeder every time it went off. I put corn out for wildlife not just deer.

I don't like rattle snakes and therefore not real big on Spring turkey hunting but I like blasting them during the Fall season so I kind of welcome them but it sounds like many of you have so many it would not really matter if you tagged out they would still be in large numbers. You almost need a way to feed deer without the corn hitting the ground like putting corn in a protein feeder but I bet the deer would eat far more than you would want with free feeding.
