Ray Roberts Lake State Park.
Just call ahead to say you want the boys want to do an outreach project, or help out for half/whole day. Boy scouts do it all the time.
Fishing from the bank has been slow though right now....

Tyler State Park. Good camp sites. Nice hiking trails. You can call for a reservation or go to the TP&W web site.

Ray Roberts State park- Johnson branch unit just stocked their fish pond with trout. That's a fun fishing day if you want them to catch a lot of fish.

I'd take them to Purtis creek State park. Beautiful woodlands for camping and a small stocked lake with fishing pier that is baited for BIG Catfish. Have to throw the Bass back though. About 1 hour east of Dallas.

+1 on Purtis Creek right now, they used to have a trout pond this time of the year also. Not much in the way of local bait shop support last time I was there 15+ years ago before my F in L died, but a beautiful place with monster Hybrid Coppernose Bluegills that eat like crappie and are easy on crickets. PC is No Wake lake and easy to use a trolling motor powered jon boat on.
Later in the year I'd suggest Eisenhower SP at Lake Texoma, great swim beach, good cabins or campground, great fishing and the Hagerman Goose Refuge is outstanding for wildlife hiking trails and so on. The fishing pier at Eienhower has generated a +100 lb catfish caught with an Ambassadeur 5000 bass rig loaded with 20 lb line, and where it is in deep water lots of Stripers too all summer.
We live west of Eisenhower about 10 miles up the lake by water, on the west side of Little Mineral, and my wife uses nothing but a 1/2oz ChugBug and has caught 10-30+ Stripers a morning or evening every day some years in the fall or spring with Small Mouth up to +4lbs and Large Mouth up to 6+ in the Spring Spawning Seaon off the beach in front of the house every April/May thru late June & later in the early Fall, Sept thru early November weather permitting.
3rd week of May earlier this year during the shad spawn she & I culled 35-40 stripers & 8 2+lb Sand Bass to a 20 fish legal limit on Stripers in under 3 hours that weighed well over 100 lbs, and took a wheel barrow to get them up the hill to the house. That time of year ya'll can do the same thing almost anyplace on the lake where you can get to shallow water off a creek channel or open water....like the face of the Dam, Parks with Launching Ramps etc without needing a boat.
OBTW the Lake Texoma Legal Limit on Striped Bass is different than any other lake in Texas at 10 fish per day per person - with 2 fish over 20"s in length - called "Overs" duoh! allowed out of the bag limit & NO minimum size required.
Live Release is allowed as long as the Striper has never been placed in a holding tank or on a stringer ... but hard to keep them alive once the water temps reach +70-75*'s and all dead fish will be counted toward a Daily Bag Limit regardless of size. This is why we don't fish much off the beach (in shallow water) once the water warms up in mid/late June....or at all from late July thru early September even out of the boat. Tooooo Dang HOT! Ron

Man! I wish I still had my farm, I'd invite y'all in a minute.
It is a great thing you're doing with those young men, way to many left on the curb in a society such as ours.
Allot of great suggestions and I only have one. Cleburne state park. They used to stock trout that where too easy to catch in the winter months.m (may want to call 1st) you know how budgets go.
Also great secluded camping 10 miles from town and tons of deer to watch.
If at first you dont succeed, then skydiving is not for you..

We are way past two hours from DFW, but you and the boys would be welcome to come camp on the indian camp grounds on our place. Still has grinding stone, middens and caves you could explore.

Grapevine lake on the north side No camping at Twin Coves anymore since Flower Mound took control of operations from the Corps. Got a friend who has a 1000 acres set aside for Boy Scouts about 3 hours from DFW west. Would that work?

^^^ All great suggestions. If you really want to expose them to nature - I'll throw out Gus Engling WMA. They have overnight cabins (no elec or water) that you can use. Tons of wildlife, and great catfishing in the creeks, when the water is running. I'm not sure if the kids would need the APH or limited use permits, you would need to look into that. Regardless, I would be willing to donate for a good cause.

You can always go to Caddo or LBJ Nat'l Grasslands to fish, hike and camp.
