Kenny I will get "flack" for saying this, but you made a good adult decision and your family will have you around for a while longer up

Maybe it's the "old" in me, or the ex law enforcement, but it just isn't worth putting yourself and possibly emergency personnel in jeopardy over a cold deer blind.

Now go do some coloring with the kids! grin

Had everything ready to go and common sense kicked in about 3:15 this morning and said "Hey dummy, you want to risk being stuck in a bar ditch off 1810 where cell service dies and not many people travel through to help all weekend? Plus your truck weight 9300lbs, so it will take a wrecker or a tractor to get you out and how much $$ is that going to run? Plus insurance deductible and the typical bs that comes with filing insurance claims if you run off and really mess up your truck? Is a monster deer worth it? "...

I'm still trying to talk myself into getting out to the land this weekend.
Maybe hopping on the 4wheeler and tearing it up outside on the ice will help ease the pain...

Kudos to you brave souls who headed out.
Good luck to those who don't make it.

Keep us updated.

That's why we came in Thursday, and we were lucky enough to be able to leave town when we did.

Don't even think about it today. Hunted yesterday afternoon. Not too bad getting to graham on back roads from Weatherford, but getting back last night was horrible.

We braved the roads yesterday and greeted with 5 (five) degree weather this morning. Deer were on the move but nothing on the ground yet. Getting back in now. Happy Hunting!

We'll, I tried and would advise anyone thinking about it to stay home. The news doesn't portray how bad it really is. It took about two hours to get from tx motor speedway to 820 & I 30. Then turned around and came home. It's like the apocalypse out there. 18 wheelers and cars just abanded in the middle of the freeways. Multiple cars that had run off road sometime in the last couple days, people standing around outside getting towed. 35w northbound was a parking lot with 2 semis side by side stuck on an incline. I did a my good deeds and towed a couple people out of trouble, then got home and unpacked. I kept thinking if I could just get to 30, it would be better. NOT! The txdot cameras show that 30 looks ok at Ranger Hill and Olden. Not even close to what it looks like between Ft Worth and Weatherford.

Spoke to my wife in Weatherford (Nurse), she told me an ambulance was stuck in their parking lot, the paramedic told them 20 was shut down.

When the postgirl doesn't show with the mail, it's bad enough.I haven't seen that cute girl for 2 days mad

Sorry for the lengthy ,message but its been interesting today ( not hunting related).

Wise County road conditions below FYI

Long story short, me and dad are back home and safe...

Been a long day. Rescued 5 people, 2 were the same truck at different locations...

Mom texted me and said dad was staying the night in a hotel in Roanoke if he could find one. Dad works at DFW airport, drives from Decatur to there on Friday morning 3:30am, couldn't come home Friday night, so stayed at the airport until 1:30pm Saturday.
I call dad he's at 377 and 170 and couldn't make it up the bridge there (2WD ford ranger). I call him, tell him to take 170 south to cabelas,he tells me he'll hit the truck stop across the street and sleep in the truck tonight. Mom tells wife and Wife says dad is out of high blood pressure meds since he's been stuck at work for 2 days straight and I tell her I'm headed out to go meet up with him. Our son is at Grandmas house and grandpa is going to make it home period.

Then we spend the next hour navigating him through housing additions via google maps because he said 170 was a nightmare.

I head out from paradise on 114, pull a woman up the first hill I get to cause she's stuck, then proceed up 114 to boyd (nasty) to 718 (not to bad) headed into Newark. Dad passes me at Kenneth Copland and from there all hell breaks loose.
He spins out just past Newark on 718 that turned from not bad to nasty in 5 minutes
(I pull him out) he passes a lady on side of road (I can't, have to take bar ditch around her to get back on highway) then he spins out on 718 again but recovers, and again spins out and runs off in bar ditch. I somewhat pull him out from the bar ditch from behind and then pull around in front of him to latch on and get him out of ditch entirely. We then make our way to a nearby restraunt and decide to park his truck there and try and take mine to get home (4x4 F250)
Dad left DFW at 1:30, it's 6:45...
We Head up 114 ( even nastier now) and then 730 north to Decatur. 2 guys off in ditch ( pull them out) then take road to the house. Get to the bridge and headed up the last hill, 3 cars stuck on the hill. 1 was already there, 2nd was the guy I just pulled out of the ditch and 3rd was a car that had followed us from 718 in Newark ( just so happen to live on mom and dads road)...
I pull the 1 guy out AGAIN! Then let the guy behind me (who I also just pulled out the ditch) make it up the hill first, then we take a run at it and make it up on the 2nd try. Little car is still stuck there. Was a long day in wise county but started at 51 N (bad) to 114 east (real bad) to 730 south (pretty bad) to 199 west (not bad at all) to 51 north (hairy at times) to 114 east ( worse this time) to 730 south ( not bad) to 718 south (not to bad) then u-turn to 718 North ( just got worse, especially at last few curves before 114) then 114 west (really bad now) to 730 north (not to bad) to Gigi' and poppa's house (my son's nickname for them).

Oh and on the way from P&GG to my house, 51south out of Decatur was slick as snot and a pickup was flipped on its roof on the side of the road with a 30 pack of stones in the back seat and at least 20 of them empty scattered around the truck. No passengers were around after investigation... Some transmission company truck out of fort worth. PQR tranny or something like that.

the occupemts are probably nursing another 30 pack somewhere, wondering how they flipped their truck and where they were going to go to work at once the cops found it and reported.

Man, if I'd have known there would be a guy out there to help me get out of a ditch, I'd have taken that route to my deerstand a couple miles from Paradise!

Just kidding, sounds like a rough afternoon. You must be a good guy to help all those folks.

I think my AWD Yukon could make it, but I just don't see it being worth the risk.

But MAN, I really want to go hunt......

West of DFW was a cluster. I drove from Amarillo to Waco today, on 287 / I35W.

Starting 50 miles from DFW, there had been ZERO work done on 287, so it was a block of ice. MF.

15 miles from FW, 287 turned into a parking lot.

I eventually gassed my car through the media to get to the access road, and it was relatively smooth sailing from there.

Wow. I'm right here at 114 & 287. I'm considering getting the gator out today just to help with cabin fever. I could drive it to town if I wanted. Nothing is moving around here and I doubt that will change for a couple days.

Watch the news! Channel 5 says DOT is showing I-20 shutdown from FTW to Palo Pinto County because of stalled vehicles & ice.

Yeah there was a post on another hunting forum, guy said he was parked on I20, between 16 and 281, no one going anywhere. He even had time to take a lengthy nap from what I recall.

News just interviewed a guy on I20 in Arlington who said he'd been stranded for 26 hours with his wife and 2 year old.

Sounds like I'll be staying in again today.

Long story. I tried to drive out to the lease yesterday. Left Garland headed for Palo Pinto. I left at 10:30AM yesterday and took the North side of the airport to get to 20....mistake. Finally got to the 20/30 split after a quick bite around 1:30. The East bound side was blocked of by police. We continued to go west and after about a mile decided that we would take the next one and figure out how to get back. Once you got west of 820 the road when from bad to just about impassable unless you had a halftrack. As we drove, the east bound side was a parking lot for as far as the eye could see. Once we slid up the service road we went under the bridge to a gas station that was closed saying that they only had super unleaded...scary sign. At a half a tank I decided that I would fill up. Spoke to a guy at the station looking for diesel saying that it took 1.5 hrs to get from Weatherford to the split. We proceed out not knowing what to expect because the only option we had was the service road and we weren't sure if it was blocked as well. The good news is that the service road eventually turned into Camp Bowie and we made it back to Garland at 5. As we were driving back, the roads were actually getting worse.
