I'm thinking about making a trip down to the coast after the split probably around the first of the year. I've never hunted the coast we whack em pretty good around east tx but I really wanna give it a shot! I have no idea where to go or how to hunt it! I've heard around corpus maybe? Probably a lot different than hunting timber in east tx. I'd love some advice on where and how to go about it... No spot naming or anything like that. Just a genral direction. Feel free to PM me! Thanks y'all!

If you want to hunt with a guide Bobby Luna is great in the Corpus area. Hunting in the bay is very different than hunting in timber. There are 1000 times more birds on the coast. It is amazing to see all the Red Heads rafted up. It is not uncommon to see rafts up to 3-4000 birds and larger.

There are lots of guys who do the cast and blast here on the forum. It is a different kind of hunt and personally I like it.

I like the way Red Heads commit to the decoys and just flip and glide into the spread it is beautiful.

It is also cool to watch the Blue Bills they fly around all crazy up down left right like their compass is broke really different then the way they fly into tanks, rivers or, spots on lakes.

Try it you might like it...

We need to know a few more details...

You want guided/unguided/taxi service, etc.?

You want to have a good shot at a mixed bag and limits or do you want to experience the thousands of redheads and pintails?

Do you plan on fishing?

Will you bring a dog?

A boat?

How many decoys does your group have?

The coast is huge, and each spot is different with its own benefits. These questions will help us give you helpful advice.

Every waterfowler should do it at some point...and then go home.

Alright guys let me clarify. I'd like an unguided hunt. No dog, just kayaks, about 6 dozen decoys (puddle ducks) and a couple mojos. Like I said I have no idea how to hunt this open water but I would love to see that many ducks at a time! And would love to get on some pintails... Does that help any?

My experience has been that getting your two redheads is pretty easy, and that's when the work starts. We started mixing in Pintail and Widgeon decoys to our spread and that helped. I would leave the Mojo's at home the salt rusts everything so quickly.

^^ this guy's right.. you might be the only one down there without a mojo. That's a good thing.
