My wife and I are thinking about getting another dog. What is everyone's recommendation for dual purpose hunting dog/ family dog. I already have a male chocolate lab but he is purely family dog. Any recommendations on where to get one?

Why not a female lab, your satisfied with the breed, that way you can keep yourself and friends and family supplied in dogs. (Insert smiley face)

It would depend on what hunting your wanting to do, then the family history and socializing.

Btw, if you want a blood tracker, hog dog, cat chasing, lap dog we've got a litter on the ground.

I second the lab for a duck dog. There are some good breeders here.

In my opinion all hunting dogs should be family dogs too.

Do yourself a favor and look into the breeding of the lab. Don't just find a litter on Craigslist or in the paper and expect the dog to be a good duck dog. Not that there is anything wrong with those dogs, but play the odds and get one from pedigrees that are proven, even if it's a little bit. And don't let the price of a well bred pup scare you away. It's worth the extra money to increase your chances of getting a good duck dog.
