I believe the same rules on the Corp site for Lavon Lake apply to all Corp property.

AUTHORIZED WEAPONS. Hunting the legal game noted below is permitted in designated hunting areas only. In areas 6-13 feral hogs may be hunted with Smooth Bore Shotguns (slug only), in all other areas Feral hogs: bow and crossbow only. Anyone hunting with a shotgun may not use, or possess any shot larger than #2. The use of non-toxic USFW approved shot is required for waterfowl hunting. All weapons must be unloaded when transported to, from, or between hunting sites. Rifles, airguns, handguns, slugs, <#2 shot, and muzzleloaders are prohibited. All applies to all hunting area unless specially noted above.

Looks like my first trip when I get home will be Bois D'Arc up in Fannin. Looking like I will try county road 409 or where 2700 and 2705 meet. I am not familiar with the area and just looking at the map. I see the registration stations.
I have the public hunt license already.
ready to go try them about the third week of October if I am lucky to get home by then.
Anyone interested or know the area??

@KYBLUEFAN and MJAYE ... check this out:

http://www.doi.gov/shutdown/fy2014/upload/BLM-FAQ.pdf

It sounds to me like hunting is still allowed on the Caddo WMA during the shutdown. Or maybe I'm being optimistic?

With this ammo for squirrels, I would probably stay below 30 yds. But I do heart / lungs shots and I have nailed birds at 40 yards

FYI to anyone looking for a spot.....I went to Gus Engeling WMA this morning to squirrel hunt. I saw about 6 other people go in but only ran across 1 guy while walking around.

There were lots of squirrels. I made the mistake of trying to use a .22 for the first couple of hours and saw several but could only get 1 shot off and missed. Those grey squirrels are fast little jokers and never sit still!

I switched over to my 20 gauge and shot 2...one of them I wounded and finished him off with the .22 LR. I did a lot of sitting and could have killed more but I stayed close to my truck and just enjoyed being outside rather than doing a lot of walking. I heard a bunch of shots so I know quite a few were being killed. My guess is I could have killed 6 if I had the shotgun the whole time and probably 8-10 if I had done more walking.

I also flipped over a log and found this huge snake underneath, he was about 6' long....it didn't turn out to well for him though. Anyone have any idea what kind it is?

I got one with my air rifle on some private land. Cooking it now. So for dinner I get my first taste of squirrel. banana
I have a .177 GAMO Fusion, if you are looking for quiet, let me tell ya, this is the one. One shot to the head and the little bugger fell right down. And the others that were around barely jumped. I could have gotten a couple more easily, but I'm not sure if I will like it so I didnt want to kill unnecessarily.

The snake on the tailgate is a Western Coachwhip-harmless, feeds on mice and other snakes, even rattlesnakes.
