You are better off going to a real hardware store rather that HD or lowes. The big box may not have the right swivels and you local Ace may already have the pipes cut to 5'.

The cap...... Get a couple of extra just in case they bust the bolt out.
Drill the hole to big for the bolt so that it stays loose and act as a swivel as well. The washers I used are to small on this one. You want as big as will fit in the cap. DOUBLE (jam) NUT THE EYEBOLT to keep it from coming unscrewed.

CHAIN.....
Does not need to be heavy duty but you need more than a dog chain. Wal Mart has a chain that is 20' long for about $18....the same as I have in the pic. I cut mine at 5ft and I think it is to long. I may shorten one of mine to 3ft and see how it works. I prefer the QUICK LINK over the LAP LINK that is more permanent and harder to remove.

Swivel....
They make a nice shiny one that is about $7, same as I have in the pic...DONT GET THAT ONE. They busted it on my first pipe. Get the plain looking one. It is $10-$12 but heavier duty.

The pipe...
6" pvc at 5ft long. This has been a good size but it is mostly a personal preference. GLUE the end caps or they can get knocked off.

I made 4 at one time and this is the one I havent used yet. That works out because I have pics of what not to use.

I have ungraded the 2 active ones on the lease.

I dont know that deer will roll them around but they will come to the smell of the corn. I have several pics of deer at this pipe.

How big are the holes in the pipe that release the corn? And how many did you drill? And how long does the corn last?

I drilled mine 1/2" and used 4.
One the next one I will use the next size smaller and 3 holes or current size and only 2 holes. The one pictured above lasted at most a week, going by the date stamp on my game cam.

I would like to stretch that out to 2 weeks if possible because that is as often as I can get out there. They wifey likes her time too and get very grumpy if i spend to much time there.

IMO using a swivel at both ends works best and I personally use 5/8 holes. Check out www.texasboars.com the original how to build a pig pipe.

Have you had the squirrels eat the holes to bigger sizes, they tore up our tubes...

I love the pipes/buckets for corn. I went with 5/8"holes and swivels on each end. It sure helped keep the chain from knotting up.
I have watched deer kick them and roll them with their head to get corn out. I have a pipe now, a pig broke my bucket.

I've seen eye hooks like that straightened right out and the hog tube a few hundred yard off down the way.

When I was using tubes they would empty them faster than we could fill them....more work than benefit. Barrels work better. Leave some gravel that won't fit through the holes and they will think there is still corn in them....at least for awhile.

Explain how the barrel works. Is it set up the same as a pipe with holes and a chain?

The eye bolt is very loose in the cap and works well for a swivel. I would like to put one in the middle of the chain though.

I went with an oversized for the job eye bolt. I dont see it getting straightened out before the screw cap breaks. Though I have been wrong before.

They did however break a swivel like the one pictured above. I went to check it for the first time and the pipe was GONE. I'm guessing it got rolled a couple of hundred yards into the briars and scrub brush.

Again I say....please explain the barrel.

Yes, very similar concept. You can find the smaller ones. Some are 25 and some are 30 gallon I think. I welded a chain to the bottom, but you could bolt it. Leave the top as it is and wire the latch closed or you can devise any number of ways to secure it. They never got the tops off.

Secure it good with a swivel on the attachment end.

The barrels last a lot longer because they hold so much more. You'll get pics of them all over the things.

In the end I got tired of messing with them. Just throw corn from the feeders now.. up

Cool, Thanks.

I to though about using a feeder but this is the cheapest way for me right now. I may upgrade to a barrel though. I am guessing the plastic works as good as metal or am I wrong about that?

I welded the eye bolts so they wouldn't bend out.

I would use metal....they'll destroy a plastic one. You'll be amazed what they do to a metal one.

If you bolt the chain to the bottom, make sure you either use a plate or huge washers. They'll rip the ones like you have in the original photos right out.

They're stronger and smarter than you think. I have had game cam pics where they worked and worked and got the leg of a feeder loose from the t-post it was attached to in order to hold it down. Once they got it loose, they would pick the feeder up by that leg and slam it down causing corn to fall out so they could eat. There would be up to 300 lbs. of corn in the thing.

a beer keg would serve the purpose also wouldn't it? The key is the number and size of holes?? I'm not real concerned with feeding because they get plenty of food between crops and winter feeding when things are rough... Just want to have them frequent an area... deer also...

How long should the chain be?I made one last night i put a 5 foot chain on it but now i see that you said shorter chain might work better. Also will a 2 inch brass ring work on the t post side or should i have a swivel on that side also?

Would using a chain with a swivel connected going around a pine tree work and have it connected to the pipe with a 3.5' chain work or is it better to have it connected to a t - post?

On the last couple I have made I don't use a chain at all. I just use a welded ring or slice of drill stem that will fit over a t-post and a quick link to attach it to the eye-bolt. It has worked fine all year and this is on an 8'x4" pipe. The problem I find with chains is that no matter how many swivels are on it they will still find a way to wrap it around the post.

I put swivels on both ends of the chain but other wise your pipe looks great. Also, I use the clip swivels but that is just a preference.

I think the biggest issue is how to secure them to the ground such that they do not get wrapped around what ever they are staked to. I personally like using a heavy duty tie out stake that you have to screw into the ground:

http://www.franksonlinepets.com/Dog-Tie-Out-Supplies.html

I have 3 pipes set out with the bottom stake on this page. The swivel on the stake allows the pigs to push it around in a circle. They have lasted for 18 plus months of continued use. I know a T- Post is the most common way to stake these down but I have had pipes bind up on the T-Posts and then get broken. They seem to break the cap.

Pig pipes are great. I have thought long and hard about a dedicated stake such that I can mount lights, cameras or solar on. Pig pipes are a great way to keep hogs in your area and to distract them from your deer areas.

Another thing is when you fill the tubes take water bottles or coke bottles and fill them with corn and drop one in every couple of scoops of corn. Your corn will last about twice as long.

If you have something overhead (like a good tree limb, or run a cable between 2 trees with stopper near trees)you can tie off to your cable and your chain will not get tangled up. Leave a little slack in chain. Just make sure you have a swivel or eye bolt with fender washer in it so they can't break the chain out of tube. You will need a ring if you use a overhead cable so it can slide up and down overhead cable
They can push it in circles and up and down the overhead cable and the chain will never tangle
