We have them in western Mills County. They are mostly nocturnal animals and make some real messes digging in our sandy hay fields for rodents. Someone said they would like to have one for a pet. They smell as bad as a skunk. bang

They are almost the same thing as bad coyotes, and can reach weights up to 9 -10 Kg (males). As the winter season is upcoming in some areas they won't be felt that much because they become less active (they don't hibernate).

We had one on our old place in San Saba. Only one I've ever seen.

I've never seen one alive, but a friend of mine killed one with his bow about 20 years ago when we were on a lease just south of Putnam.

I used to snare fencelines and would catch 30-40 every spring in LaSalle County. They can tear up some ground in a hurry. Stink to all get out and have a nasty attitude.

Got them in South Texas! I call um a souped up coon.
Also saw a couple of porcupines I'd never seen in my neck of the woods in over 50 years of hunting.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Saw one dead on the side of the highway between Bald Prairie and Easterly a couple years ago. Thought it was a HUGE coon at first. I turned around to have a look. It was a small badger.

edited to add: Robertson County

Pecos and Terrell counties have plenty of them. They go after the pocket gophers pretty good. I tend to catch 6-10 a year in traps and snares, they can sure mess up a good set.

As far as hunting with coyotes idk, it's more the coyote is a lazy thief that lets the badger do all the dirty work and the coyote runs off with the reward once it pops up.

Ive seen quite a few of them while working with my grandpa here in the Lubbock and Plainview area. Seems that I always happen to see them around prairie dog towns.

Lots of Badgers in Shackelford county. They are 99% nocturnal so not a lot of sightings.

shot one with a bow outside of Junction going towards London. Mean little boggers, down in south Texas saw them all the time and they will chase you and bow up and make all kinds of racket. They stink to high heaven as well.

My dad used to trap off our place in the Lubbock area and would always catch a few every winter (80s). I know they are around, but I haven't seen one in a few years.

I have more of those mother humpers than you can shake a stick at up here in the panhandle. We take them out any time we can, they will leave holes all over the fields big enough to tear up farm equipment.

I have snared 4 of them hole digging monsters. When they get snared they dig a hole that looked like a back-hoe had been there. It took a while to fix the damage.
They are neat to watch, they walk funny. And our deer do not like them for some reason, they will scatter like a bobcat was coming.
And I caught two each time I caught them, a male and a female, the same day.
