Getting ready for dove, teal, duck season and checking guns. My son was given a berreta with choke to stuck in it, and my nephew had a choke tube stuck in his barrel. Tried wd-40, heat with blow dryer, then used a candle. These boogers were really stuck. I messed up two choke tube wrenches, so I Read up on internet, and heard some folks talk about pb blaster and liquid wrench. i USED pb blaster on nephews gun, and got his choke freed, but the beretta was a no go. Soaked beretta barrel overnight, and was able to free that choke. I also used a rubber mallet, and tapped the barrels periodically.
Thought I might share, because I thought I was going to have to use a gunsmith. PB cost about $5at home depot and I had liquid wrench from who knows where.

Soaked Beretta in liquid wrench enough to submerge entire choke.

It can be really frustrating getting one out that's really hung up. I constantly check mine now. Even during hunts I'll unscrew it a bit then tighten it up, hand tight only.

Soak in Kroil over night, come out easier then taking the cap off a Dr. Pepper bottle. Kroil is a life saver... I place chapstick on the threads of my chokes and it repels moisture out of the threads. I also only use extended chokes in my guns.

Kroil is good stuff, but you can't beat pb blaster. Gotta keep that stuff around working on compressors that were packaged 30-40 years ago.

My father left an antique Italian made o/u in a moist basement for 15 years and needless to say his chokes practically became permanent fixtures. So I soaked it in Hoppes over night, still no luck loosening em'. Then I submerged the end of the barrels in about 4 inch deep of a concoction called "Ed's Red" that's developed a cult following over at the shotgunworld forum. After about a half day the chokes came loose and exposed a nasty layer of surface rust on the threads of both the barrels and the chokes. I used a little lite axel grease on the threads and simply hand tightened the chokes after the thorough cleaning. I tell ya I use that stuff nearly every time my guns need a good cleaning. And one batch makes at least a year's worth of the stuff, if not more. Beats buying commercial solvent. CONTENTS: Ed's Red Bore Cleaner
1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.
1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1
1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS #64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or equivalent, (aka "Varsol")
1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.
(Optional up to 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, OK to substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)

I've had a choke tube expand in my barrell (because I was a big dummy and shot steel shot through one that was clearly stamped "no steel") it took getting vice grips on it and tapped it out with a hammer which screwed the choke up and took some of the wrapping off the barrel. Needless to say I learned a lesson that i could of easily avoided.

I had one stuck after this past season. Guess spending 21 days in the hospital with the wife then another 35 with our newborn in the NICU can cause havoc on uncleaned guns.
Sent it back to Franchi, and got it back 2wks later good as new, free of charge. They said to try using some oil but that didn't work so I had to return it.

$1 at most auto parts for a small tube of anti-seize goes a long ways.

Choke lube and regular checking is by far the best way to go but, should you encounter a stuck choke it's likely more "frozen" than stuck. You cannot put enough torque on a tube to stick it with a regular choke tool of any kind. (OK maybe you could if you wrap your thumb around the bbl and lean back on it. If you do this, STOP IT! They make choke wrenches short for a reason, and it's not because it's easier to carry) I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but if you'll GENTLY tighten the choke a bit, won't take much pressure at all, it will usually break free, then you can back it out. You might even hear a "click" when it breaks free while GENTLY tightening it.

A plus to grease or anti seize, the chokes rarely loosen up, win win!

and remember it takes very little anti seize compound for anything I am thinking the wax or chapstick is a very handy sub if you don't have anti seize handy

Soak in PB Blaster.
Extract
Apply liberal amounts of anti-seize and reinstall.
Antiseize is your friend.
