Thats awesome. I've got my great granddad's .30-30 also but its not nearly that old. Or an Octagon barrel but its still pretty special. I've killed several deer with it over the years.

Great story and great gun. When my dad went to the happy hunting ground, I gave my son the Winchester, I think Model 94, 32-20 with octagon barrel. He had shot his first deer with it. I'm pretty sure he is the 5th generation to shoot a deer with it on the same ranch. Looks good on the wall in his basement bar area when not locked in the safe.
Get a deer with it. May want to try Lever Revolution ammo.

The magazine runs almost the length of the barrel. My modern Marlin from the late '60s has a shorter magazine. Really cool looking rifle!
