I realize seeing things in person can change your answer but just for fun ... East Texas lease, pic is not to scale, WMD would be a crossbow or 270. The clear cut is bascially triangular, about 150 yards at the base, 400 yards "deep". Was clear cut over a year ago, dirt in clearing was rowed over six months ago (very little grass - easy to see across). The triangle "points" north. Tracks are found along edges of clear cut. Outside the area below it is basically surrounded by mature east texas forest for several 1000 yards. Timber company: MLD 3 lease. Rougly within the oval/circle, where would you hunt/place a stand(s)? Or look elsewhere?

I think I would put up two stands, one closer to the hardwood line by the creek bottom, and one in the other side by the pine tree bedding site. More north or more toward the road would depend a lot on the trails and the prevailing winds, but that way you could hunt from the creek bottom side in the am when animals would be bedded down and from the other side when they are moving back.
Just my thoughts.
What did you end up doing?

I'd be looking for a well used game trail in the 8-10 year old pines that's as close to the road as possible within the lease area, and no more than 50 yards from the edge of the clear cut.
Assuming prevailing NW / N winds, I'd position one of my High Chair stands something like 30 yards South of the game trail and 30 to 40 yards from the clear cut border.
Also, I would make sure I have a good clear and quiet walk in trail approaching the stand from a Southerly direction.
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you. "I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view, but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana

What did you end up doing? Have not put one up yet. Plan on it in the next couple weeks ... building a new stand this weekend in the backyard. I did put out a couple cams about two weeks ago about half way up the east and west sides of the clear cut. I checked them this morning. Mostly doe/fawn pics near the 8 - 10 year growth, one young buck, and a yote. Fewer does, two young bucks and a couple hawgs near the creek bottom/open field on the western edge.

I'd mow the 100acre field and plant a big-o food plot. They'll run the tree lines & go back & forth across that rd, but getting does out in the open will be something that's very important.

Look, you have many options but...I would seriously consider placing a tower/elevated box stand just above the second "S" of the word scrapes,in the edge of the clear cut. Here's why. In east Texas, we have a predominant southeast wind most of the year, and if a front comes through, then it generally comes out of the north/northwest. That position would help keep the wind in your favor most of the time and would give you a great view of your best areas. I see the hard would bottom as a natural travel corridor for deer travel, and the position allows a good view to the south and west. I would also advise sticking to the 270 in the clear cut. Of course this is just my opinion.
