The way I look at finding sheds is based on acres of land per buck. I you have one buck for every 50 acres then you have one shed for every 25 acres. Look for concertation sources...food plots, feeders, water, fencelines, ditch/creek crossing, etc.

They are not as easy to find as you think so it does excite you when you find one. I found one this year and it was by a fenceline and then after traveling miles and miles through the woods on my UTV finally spotted one right off the path we were on. I also in the past have found them handing in brush so don't forget to also look up and not just at the ground.

To answer your question they do make antler traps I have seen them omline before just don't remember where....just Google it and I'm sure you will find several places that sell them.

When I lived in San Angelo, I spent hours walking around looking for sheds on the Universities 7000 acre ranch. I found a lot of sheds, and some really nice pairs. When I first started looking, I would walk through dense brush, and follow deer paths. I didn't find very many. Eventually, I noticed that most of the sheds I found were actually on the edges of where the fields(open areas) meet the tree line. Generally, if I had an open area with an intermediate treeline, against a really dense/brush area, that is where I found a lot of sheds.

Animals drag them off too, so you can really find them anywhere.

Of course, you have to develop an eye for spotting them. Once you have your eye trained, you can look across large areas and pick them out. My fellow grad students use to get mad at me because I could spot and find sheds quicker.

I know a guy in Missouri that has trained lab for his shed dog, it is awesome to see the pile of sheds he has after the season is over.

I've found a shed or two with my 4 wheeler or tractor tire when I was growing up.

Have to get them at the right time. If you have a good coyote population they will get them quick.

I've got a lab/coon hound that Helps me find them, she found a couple sets this year on my 640 acres, probably not as many as she could have but anything that moves side tracks her easily and I'm not that dedicated of a trainer. Got the idea to start working with her when she kept dragging up sheds, deer skulls and road kill to the house.
